Coffee Pod Recommendations Price/Taste

Hey all,

I have that LOR machine. I'm wondering what everyone's favourite PODS are? I know we're always looking for sales, but happy with a decent price for a better quality coffee.

Thank you

I prefer to buy reusable pods (podstar are good) and then fill it up with my favourite blend from my local coffee roasters.

I second this! Way better for the environment too, much less waste.

Coffee pods create so much unnecessary waste!

    • How much does it work out a pod?

So I can grind my own beans, and fill the pods?

      • Yep, that’s exactly how you use it.

The cost per pod depends on the machine you have, how many you buy, and any extras you want. So you’ll need to go on the website to see if it is compatible. If podstar isn’t, then you’ll have to look for another reusable option that is.

If you’re only planning on making one coffee at a time, one pod will be enough, as you can reuse it once it’s cold again (it’s extremely hot to touch straight away so you’d want to wait a few mins, but you can shower with cold water if you want to use the same pod a couple of times in a row).

Most seem to be between $30 and $50 for one pod, depending on where you get it and machine compatibility, with discounts per pod if you buy more than one.

It’s a big investment straight up, which is why I opted to go for a stovetop machine for the same price. But I’ve used them often at a friends place who already had a pod machine and was getting sick of the extreme waste it was creating.

The other thing to consider is that pods have like 5g of coffee in it, and the cost per amount of coffee is severely marked up compared to buying your own beans and grinding them. So over time, your cost per coffee will reduce.

We do this with our Nespresso machine. Best decision ever.

We get our beans from Killer Coffee Co or local roasts.

I've looked into it, $70 for 2 pods.

I just feel like if I have to refill pods, I may be better off selling the LOR machine and just buying a decent coffee machine for $300-400.

It's alot of effort to make a coffee, which I have no issue doing but then I'm unsure why I'd bother with the pods at all.

Tough choice, definitely the best option for pods tho. I can't find much available, at a reasonable price so making your own mix is the best bet.

Basically what I've bought on special!

  • Found that the official nespresso is the best, and then those moccona ones arnt that bad.
A lot of the knockoffs are just really bad or same as instant

  • Aldi #10

    • I noticed some on clearance, but wasn't sure if they fit LOR.

They don't unfortunately. They only fit Aldi / K-Fee. Too many systems out there.

Coffee is extremely subjective… what I love, you may think is horrible.

For me, having an easy, local source was important, so I just randomly bought flavours of whatever compatible pods were on special at the supermarkets until I found something that I liked. In my case, I ended up settling on a couple of Lor varieties from coles & woolies.

L'or Onyx (I use two), or the double pods Double Barista Selection, or Double Ristretto. I've tried a few pod machines over the years and this is the only one that I actually like the coffee enough to give up buying from a cafe! (yes, too lazy to get a proper machine to try and make at home!)

Edit- just for comparison, I usually buy a Piccolo as I like a strong flavour of coffee.

    • Yeah, I noticed on clearance but never any stock in SA!
Harvey Norman shipping is $25, so kills it.

  • Perfetto Nespresso via Kogan, anyone tried?

Lavazza Vigoroso Intensita 12 30 pack is like $6.80 at WW, I grabbed some off Amazon for $13 and 20% off. These seem really cheap!!!

  • Hey guys any recommendations on the most basic pod machine?
