Can I Post a Kindle from Australia to Overseas?

Looking to buy a Kindle here to send to a friend in Japan. Will I have any issues sending this through the post? As far as i know the Kindle holds a lithium battery already installed in the device that is not easily removed.
I plan to buy the Kindle new and unopened in the box and send it that way too.

Couldn’t you just buy it from amazon (or wherever), and send it directly to them in Japan?

    • I planned to send it with some other things and I'd also like to claim it on my tax.

Helping a friend and reduce taxes at the same time.

      • How do you plan on claiming it on tax? You can’t claim TRS via post if that is what you mean?

        • Probably doing a dodgy and claiming it as a tax deduction

  • Why are you doing that? Looks like Amazon Japan sells a kindle https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B086DWZ9MR/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_…

It will make life easier with warranties and ability to buy books on Amazon JP

  • Yes, yes you can.
    But it may get lost.

I sent a new one three months ago via Australia post tracked to Colombia, it never showed up and AP are refusing to pay for the loss… don't get me started on that.

I did send one to NZ and Vietnam without issues, so it is possible :)

    • All you need to do is get insurance with AusPost and then you’re covered if it gets lost, I believe it’s only $2 or $3 extra.

  • Note there is extra delay for shipments to Japan. It was advices to use express international at the moment to Japan .
