  • There was a pink astronaut?

Yeah as part of the lego movie series. Blue, yellow pink and white

      'Jenny'. At least she isn't a Karen…

    • Well, NASA scheduled a historic all-female space walk but they forgot to count the number of fitting female space suits. True story. Someone had to go au naturel or miss out. Pink, shortly followed by the colour skin turns when exposed to near vacuum boiling.

Op, recent Teams update lets you upload a new background from the selection screen. No need to sneak around in the file system any more.

    • Thanks for letting me know, finally!

  • What is the difference between a 'virtual' background and just a picture or wallpaper?

    • Practically, none, since a virtual background can be any image.

A virtual background is a fake backdrop that can be used in videocalls, such as Zoom (on some platforms). If you sit in a well-lit area with a plain, light-coloured but distinctly different shade background, (which is impossible in my home), you can get the videocall app to perform a rough key effect to substitute the real background with a "virtual" one. Which can be any image on your device.

      Pretty much a gimmick.
It was promoted, ostensibly, as a privacy feature so that other people don't see your home, but the necessity of a plain background for the key effect to work makes disguising the background irrelevant.

I use teams for work, and find the background keying works fine despite my having shelves full of assorted stuff behind me.
        🤷‍♂️

  • I can't find a way to add virtual backgrounds using the Android app. Apparently my MacBook air isn't powerful enough to use virtual backgrounds in zoom.

  • I hate that website. I always get stuck in a loop regarding cookies.
I eventually figured out that one of the optional settings isn't really optional (why they don't grey out that option as they do with the other "required" settings?), but everytime I visit I have to set the cookie options again.

  • When I add a background to my Zoom (on my Xiaomi Air laptop), I get all pixelated and I blend into the background. Never tried to troubleshoot it because I thought it looked funny
