Would You Recommend TCL QUHD Smart TV?

I am looking to buy a cheaper smart TV 50-65" below $1000 with at least 4k or UHD feature with reliable warranty. I know samsung and sony is out of my budget.

I was looking at kogan and heard that their customer service does not 'exist'. So I tried to find Aldi one but they don't appear to have any special at the moment.

Then I found this costco one (https://www.costco.com.au/TVs-Electronics-Technology/Smart-T…) and just wondering if ozb community can give me some insights in terms of the difference between this brand and other more expensive brand with comparable apple to apple feature? What makes them so much cheaper than the other branded names with similar feature?

If you don't recommend this brand, which TV would you recommend in that price range?

Also, I read from costco website that refund or returns can be anytime if customer is dissatisfied. Does it mean warranty is as long as I am a member of costco?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Can get it for $479.20 delivered (or cheaper with discounted giftcards) if you are an eBay Plus member. Sold by a reputable seller with great reviews.

They are cheap and comparable to Hisense. However, the android OS on TCL is much worst. Would suggest to look into whripool forum for more information

I have the 55p6us from 2018. Its an ok tv. HDR on it is pretty rubbish as it has very low Nits and doesn't support Wide Color gamut so tends to look more washed out compared to my other 4k tv's. Has a lot of bugs still to this day. Has a tendency to turn itself on randomly unless its been hard powered down via menu(so no soft power off). Had a few times where ive woken in the middle of the nigh to the noise of the tv being on(and yes it was powered off before going to sleep). Also freeview can take some time to kick in, lip sync issues. I have it at a holiday house so these issues dont overly cause issue. Wouldnt put up with it as a main tv though. I would personally never buy another TCL. I bought it in part for the Android OS. Woudlnt bother with it in a tv again. Would just go an external device in future. Look for a tv with a solid functional UI, be it webOS from LG or even Samsung's UI.If you must get Android, make sure its got the grunt to power it well to avoid sluggishness as they apply new Android OS updates, but these lower end tv's just dont come with powerful enough CPU's.

Just check JB and they have a Sony and a Hisense for under 1k in 55". The Sony doesnt appear to be running Android though. Just linux according to the specs. The Hisense is the new 2020 model. Which i think is equivalent to their r6 line from last year.

Otherwise JB also has the FFalcon 65" for under $800. Its made by TCL for JB anyway. Its a pretty basic tv but at least you get bang for buck.

just got a hisense 55s8 for $799 and also a hisense 65r7 for my dad for $996 from appliance central on ebay, the coupon code is still on here 'pmon20'

    • I've heard good things about the Hisense R series.. how do they stack up against Samsung/Sony?

      • difference is negligible in terms of picture quality.. unless you are a pixel peeper. hisense is a great TV with 3 year warranty and good after sales service.

dont forget the quality of the picture is only as good as what you play on it. crap quality video will be crap on any TV,

      • Be aware they do have some issues. Some people(including myself) have suffered from a screen flicker on the R series. Occurs for a split second but once you see it, you cant un-see it. Its apparently been resolved by a new firmware update in last 2 weeks but i havent had a chance to apply it to confirm. it also seems to suffer from lip sync issues at times. Other than that its a nice looking tv. For the price, the blacks are impressive. Dolby Vision suffers from a brightness issue, but HDR does look very good. The Viida U platform is decent but they arent very good at adding new services. Still no D+. I have the 75r7 by the way.

  • Thank you everyone..
