The last of us part 2 is getting absolutely demolished by the fan base.

    • +2

I'll see what its like in a few days when my copy arrives

    • -5

Not really, it broke sales records for the first week.

Video game fans never boycott anything. They just talk about how they aren't going to buy games, for usually derpy reasons such as it has a gay person in it, and then go and buy it.

      • +13

The sales are great for Sony and Naughty Dog. I've nothing against the game including gay people or transgender people, but the story is truly terrible IMO, compared to the first one.

      • +8

The story (not other things) is bad for many who bought it + the marketing and reviews was a bait and switch so there are alota dissapointed fans

        • +3

so its a terrible game? No it's not. It's a great game. Some people don't like it. That's fine lol.

          • +5

@onlinepred: The game itself is fine in terms of gameplay its the same as the first one, but you don't play games like this for the gameplay, but for the story. The story has many problems, but If you like the story then that's ok. Just don't compare it to the first because it's no way near as good.

          • +5

@onlinepred: If you think its great thats good for you, but the game was terrible since I liked the first

            • -1

@KingSlayyer: I hated bloodbourne, horizon dawn, God of wars, does that make them bad?

              • +4

@onlinepred: That's your opinion. But the majority of people will disagree with you, as those games you mentioned are very good. You can say that the Last of Us part 2 is good, that is what you think, but not many if at all will agree with on that.

                • +1

@Bissy: by how? sales numbers? if so, the last of us part ii could be better than part 1. the last of us since part one tells one truth: life sucks. and part ii is just one level above to tell how life sucks more.

                  • +5

@ghostdom: Sales doesn't equal good game. Example any EA sports games they're filled with terrible micro-transactions, yet sell well.

Idk if you played the game, but it's not just life sucks more, the whole message of the game can be summed up in three words "revenge is bad". The structure of the plot is terrible, the new character is very unlikeable, there is zero character development, The death of a character has no impact because we learn nothing about them until there is a flashback. I could go on, but that would mean I've to spoil the game.

                  • +5

@ghostdom: The idea they were going for in Part II is interesting, but I think they goofed the execution. It could have been more compelling but they didn't build a believable character arc. A lot of the actions of the main characters played for shock value but weren't consistent with their motivations or established beliefs in my view. The side characters were also not particularly interesting or well developed. In both areas, TLOU1 was much stronger.

I feel like 7/10 is fair considering the visual/sound design was amazing but the gameplay was a rehash of TLOU1 and the plot was a let down.

                  • @ghostdom: Did you play the last of us? There message in that game isn’t life sucks. The point of the game was about grief and acceptance. Joel’s say to Ellie it’s about “finding a glimmer of hope to hold onto.” That’s the game but if you examine the ending it can spurs tons a philosophical discussion. But most of that discussion comes from a few key assumptions about whether the vaccine was a sure thing and whether you consider it important if Ellie gets to decide on her life for herself and Joel getting to decide based on being a parent.

But it’s really simplified by the fireflies being (profanity) and not giving a shit about what anyone thinks. gambling on the last known immune human without anyone’s consent. on the off chance that this time they’ll find success where the rest of humanity failed. Also that a vaccine might not even help mankind at this point even if it did work or could make enough of it and get it to everyone in a world of billions of man eating monsters. The is a reason why they were happy to rush into a procedure with a kidnapped, drugged child that’s effectively an execution.

Anyway this is a completely different message compared to part 2. It doesn’t bother with anything deeper than the cycle of revenge.

              • +2

@onlinepred: Do you see hundreds of thousands of people bashing those aforementioned games?

          • +3

@onlinepred: That doesnt make it a 10/10 game like ALL critics are saying

some Aussie critics are so salty they are releasing multiple articles defending the game or saying anyone who doesnt like it didnt play it

And ofc there’s people saying people just dont like the lgbt thing which IS NOT TRUE

        • +7

Yeah, after having platinum'd the first game on both PS3 and PS4, I picked the sequel up on day one. Spent around 10 hours on it.

They completely ruined the world for me, and I doubt I'll ever finish the game. Total shame.

          • +3

@integriti: I couldnt bring myself to play when they started forcing you to play as HER

Its like making you play as Makarov in CoD, who wants that?

            • +3

@Freestyle: They tried to pull a Metal Gear Solid 2, but failed miserably just like playing the game.

              • @Bissy: Raiden wasnt a villian though, right?

I never owned original PS so never got into Metal gear stuff lol

                • +1

@Freestyle: No, but the idea is similar as they advertised the game with Snake from the first game being the main character. However, the story was written around this twist and worked out really well.

            • -1

@Freestyle: Wtf is wrong with you…. didn't you pay Ellie's story

            • -1

@Freestyle: Already played as Ellie in the first game though. You played that right? Why don't you want to play as Ellie?

      • +6

for usually derpy reasons such as it has a gay person in it,

Nice try, but we all knew Ellie was gay in last of us DLC. And that was very well received. The homophobe and transphobe attacks by fanboys towards people who are legitimately criticizing the game is getting tiresome.

        • -3

Yes this, I had no idea there was so many homophobes here, and so openly.

  • +1

    HODL

    • +1

Yeah, I’ve always been a Xbox person, going hodl a few month than pick up a ps4 on the cheap to play what I’ve missed out on once the ps5 is out

      • The PS5 appears to be backwards compatible with PS4. I was just considering a PS4 but the backwards compatibility is tempting, even though the PS5 is going to be more expensive.

  • +7

A good game with a terrible story. The 1st time ever SONY agree to give people refund.

    • Considering Sony don’t make the game , I don’t think they are refunding shit

      • +5

Considering Sony own Naughty Dog and it’s on their service, they probably can. ;p

      • +4

Sony owns Naughty Dog’s ass and if they want to avoid this in the future they’ll put a leash on Neil Drunkmann

      • +1

What I meant was it’s Naughty dog refunding, not Sony.

  • +1

Great game but my only complaint is lack of variety in stealth takedowns

    • more like AI is still stuck in 2012

I kill an Enemy and get caught: "SHE'S RIGHT THERE AFTER HER!"

I go down some stairs like a few meters away: "OMG SHE GOT AWAY LOOK FOR HER!"

This is in Survivor difficulty, wtf.

  • +1

I held out all this time not to buy a console and now that The Last Of Us 2 is out, I'm finding it harder to resist not to.

    Please give me strength….

    • I was in the same position… held out on PS4 for so long (Owned PS1-3 + PSP, thought I would be a loyal fan on the PS brand… but never really feel the need to buy PS4 so been holding out).

Then COVID hits… still holding on. Then FF7 came out… still holding on… then my PC broke down (can't login)… I am now a proud owner of a PS4 Pro… LOL.

yes, I was seriously considering holding out to get the PS5 but then thought 1st gen issues and high prices… I might wait another year or two (2022, the year of the Forbidden West) till I upgrade.

      • +1

Wait for the PS5 as can play all PS4 games. Its a much better deal than getting a PS4 now.

        • i think this is a long dream… but hope your dream comes true… even now not all games from psx, ps2, ps3 available in ps4

          • @thomalfa: It's not a long dream, if you did your research would find that the PS5 will support the top 100 PS4 games at launch with the rest being support a bit later. Here are some sources: https://www.theverge.com/2020/3/20/21188585/sony-ps5-backwar… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aLyNM2zK1M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph8LyNIT9sg

Only a handful of PS2 games can be played on PS4, but I hope full backwards compatibility comes to PS5.

            • @Bissy: wondering how much it's gonna cost for each game to be able to play on the ps5 console…. going to crack piggy saving soon

              • @thomalfa: Its native support for ps4 games you don't need to pay extra. As for new games its free update for next-gen consoles, for example Cyberpunk 2077 your ps4/xbox one copy will get a free ps5/series x version. Its up to the devs if they want to enable the update, but it will be free on both next-gen consoles.

  • I can't comment on the last of us, but I sympathize with game developers: produce the same game twice, get slammed for a reason and failing to innovate, make the game too different, and you've betrayed the essence of what made the original great.

Doom 2016 vs eternal comes to mind. "Boo it's a platformer now" vs "hooray vertical gameplay and more complex game mechanics". The Devs can't win.

    • +6

The criticism has nothing do with gameplay innovation or lack thereof. It's in regards to the awful story. Big problem for a story based game.

If you want to sympathize with developers. Direct it towards employee's at studios like Naughty Dog who crunch and overwork their staff causing them to quit.

      • Yeah crunch sucks. The industry that brings gamers so much joy is generally pretty unpleasant to work in.

I'm a PC guy, but seriously considering getting the ps5, backwards compatibility and lots of friends with extensive libraries is pushing me over the edge.
