Transferring files/data from iOS to Android via laptop?

Just wondering if anyone can point us in the direction for transferring files across from an iPhone 6 to a Samsung A51. Samsung app says to use the included USBC OTG adapter. But there isn't one with the A51.

We only have our mobile data, so prefer not to go via 'clouds' etc.

Hoping to use the normal charge cables from each phone and transfer via a laptop. Anyone know of any good freeware programs to do it? Seems like Samsung don't have a laptop option. Tried a couple and both and were just trial software only and they require registering and USB debugging enabled (seemed possibly dodgy)?

  • windows laptop shouldnt need anything for the phone to show up. except maybe usb debugging, which is fine.
no software needed, just get it to show up as a drive

if its mac, try Android File Transfer or whatever its called. usb debugging still fine

the hard part will be getting the iphone to do cooperate with anything. they dont call it a walled garden because its easy to leave

  • Wife went through this process at the beginning of the year. Didnt use any apps to transfer files, just backed up from the phone to the computer with itunes or one of those alternative itunes apps for accessing photos and files.
Just go for it, there was 1 or 2 apps that she lost chat data, but that was fine and easy to move on from. Perhaps go to a library to use the free wifi to get some of the backups done, especially to google photos.

    The change was worth it.

  • Things like calendars etc wouldn't come across without a proper transfer program?

    • -1

i need my calendars and recurring dates

  • Bought a USB C OTG adapter for $5 from Kmart. Then used the old iphone charge cable and linked them together. Used the Samsung app on the phone and the import all went through.

However, I didn't turn off/ disable iMessages first. Will this be an issue? (read somewhere you may nor receive sms from your 'imessage buddy' at all if you dont disable before exporting?
