Nitecore MH20GT Rechargeable LED Torch $164.95 + Free Shipping (Was $229.95) @ LiteShop

50

Was looking for a good compact torch and found this on LiteShop. From what I can see on enthusiast forums, it is a good thrower for its class. USB rechargeable too which is a big plus if you're on the go.

Free shipping (signature) as well, or $7.95 Express Post which is very reasonable in my opinion.

Wow, does it also shoot laser beams through walls? For that price, you'd want it to

    • and people complain that apple is a rip off and they should buy android because it’s cheaper ……

    • Then stick to your dolphin torch and move on. High quality LED torches with Li-ion batteries generally cost upwards of $100 and usually cost more when those torches are putting out more light at greater distances than is usual for their size. You could go the Astrolux FT03 with 2400 lumens and 875m range but it is bigger and heavier and not as well built, without a 5 year warranty. Throw in a niche emitter with warmer light and higher CRI and it can get up there.

This isn't a good torch and not recommended, here is why:

    MH20GT- $165
    Turbo: 1000 lumens - 1h
    High: 410 lumens - 3h
    Medium: 230 lumens - 6h 45 min.
    Low: 50 lumens - 22h
    Firefly: 1 lumen - 680h

    Something that is recommended:
    Thrunite TC15 -$85

    Turbo (2300 lumens~820 lumens /2 mins+83 mins),
    High (1050 lumens/90 mins),
    Medium (250 lumens /6.5 hrs),
    Low (25 lumens /68 hrs),
    Firefly (1 lumens /41.5 days),
    Strobe (830 lumens /180 mins).

Big difference in specs and saving $90.

450 lumens on high is extremely weak, which is why an 18650 is lasting 3 hours. 1050 lumens is pretty good, but not as good as other brands such as Skilhunt or Wowtac.

Tldr: Don't buy nitecore, they do make some good torches and charges but not this!

Far more to it… like thermal management both electronic and physical such as copper etc to wick heat it away from the led, tint and grade of the emitter. Not to mention the quality of the circuitry or beam pattern and corona etc.

not directly on this torch, just in general but output specs are a crappy way to assess the quality and value. Havent been involved in a while but I have well over 30 led torches and countless 18650, 14500s and 60 Eneloops in collector colour packs, etc, batteries from Sony LG Samsung as well more chargers than I can ever use. I have a Solarforce s2200 thats never been outside the box. I got crazy into it.

      • Good point but if you stick with industry leaders such as Skilhunt, Zebra light, Wowtac, Thrunite, Olight then you can simply skip all that.

If that's your jam then that's all good too!

They are torches for different purposes though…

The Thrunite has a shorter throw and wider flood, with higher lumens to illuminate the larger beam spread and spill but only 15,200 candela. The Nitecore has an additional 118m throw and a smaller more defined hotspot with 33,000 candela. Torches designed for throw have lower lumens but higher candela and thus have a brighter hotspot which will better illuminate what you are looking at at a distance. A flood oriented torch has less candela as the light is less intense but will need more lumens to get good illumination over the wide area.

If you looked head-on into a thrower and a flood torch, both with 2000 lumens, the thrower will be more intense because the majority of its output will be focused in one spot, not illuminating the surrounding area.

If you want to spotlight things from over 300 metres away or just want a nice tight beam with minimal light spill, go the Nitecore MH20GT. If you want a to illuminate a wider area in a shorter distance, go the Thrunite TC15

  • You can definitely get it cheaper. $125 from a quick google search.
I have the standard mh20 and is my favourite EDC. Feels good in hand and the switch + UI is great. Unfortunately I wouldn’t call it a bargain tho. The mh20gt is over 4 years old and outdated in flashlight terms.

Over $150 for a 1000lumen is too expensive, i got a 1000lm from Aldi for less than $30, usb charging too.

Humans are incapable of comparing light levels.

Businesses routinely carry out criminal behavior like lying about the light levels that the customer cannot compare to anything else.

    • Aldi doesn't exactly sell quality products. For instance, the 1000 lumen Super Bright Tactical torches on Amazon are poorly made, not IPX-8 rated, have no warranty or support, don't state that you won't get the max output if you don't use a Li-ion battery that isn't included and will set you back another $20+ for one that won't blow up (Ultrafire batteries are great at this) if they can even hit the stated output or beam distance at all. A cheap torch is exactly that, cheap!

Mate, you're confusing yourselves between Aldi and Amazon marketplace, they're totally different entities. Unlike Amazon and eBay who will gladly take your money to advertise your elixir of immortality, Aldi at least do their bit to ensure they don't get a summon from ACCC. They don't just flash their 60 day free return no question ask motto around for no reason. Before getting butt hurt because your $150 torch can be had for a fifth of a price, spend sometimes trying out their stuff and see it for yourself.

        • It's an example that not everything cheap is good. Take a look at the Aldi power tools, for instance, they are cheap and great for light applications but they don't hold up to the abuse that a tradie will put them through. Their torches aren't much better. Check the reviews for their 1500 Lumen torch with power bank feature. It either stopped working or only works for half the feature. They also dim when the batteries low, whereas a quality torch will run at capacity and not dim until the battery dies. The point is you get what you pay for. I have an 8-year-old LED lenser that is still going strong and a heap of cheap (sub $50) torches that I wouldn't rely on in an emergency because they flicker, drain batteries too quickly, not bright enough, or just don't work at all. If you are happy with a $30 Aldi torch, cool, but a $150 torch will be a different beast to a $30 one.

  • I have this for over 1 year. Its good. Bit pricey bit easy ui to use.

  • A$103 delivered with coupon code MAP.

    https://www.fasttech.com/products/5547300

    • Nice - When I use the MAP coupon code it becomes $71.51. Free shipping as well.
I've never bought from fasttech though. Are they reliable?

      • +1

Fasttech are fine, i have ordered plenty from them over the years

        • Ah great - thanks man.
Might just get one of these. Goin camping later this year. Maybe lol. Depending on state of pandemic lol.

  • They have the MH12 V2 for $59.20!!!

It is impossible. It's a $130-$170 torch. How is it $59.20?

    • Thats in US$.
      Which means its around A$90
and in australia they sell for A$134
      https://www.liteshop.com.au/content/nitecore-mh12-compact-fu…
      Why is it impossible?

    • Fasttech is not Australian, they charge in USD, don't include GST and you will need to pay for shipping as it comes with a Li-ion battery. Plus you don't have the same level of support as you would if you bought from an Authorised Australian retailer

  • I have the MH23 and its an excellent torch.
