Well prepare for another round of price jacking by a convenient 50%.

Here is a "$40" pepperoni pizza for $20.

    • +2

You need to search better, plenty of restaurants on UE with minor price hikes. My local is $18 13" supreme on UE, $17 if I call up.

    • +15

Do you have any proof of price jacking?

You do realise that resturaunts have always increased their prices on delivery services because they take a massive cut?

      • -6

It's against Uber Eats policy to have a different price in store compared to listed on Uber Eats, I recommend reporting any stores you notice price jacking for any reason.

        • +3

And what good does that do for small businesses trying to stay float ? Uber takes a 35% commission so just think about it…

        • +1

How do McDonald's get away with it then?

        • subway does it. Charge 2 dollars more than instore

        • lol, everything on Uber Eats is more expensive than in store…

    • +1

Dumplings plus actually reduced their 10-Pack pan fried dumplings from $14 to $11 yesterday even though they participated in the 50% Chinese..

      • I was surprised too and ended up ordering with them. Not that there were many participating restaurants in my area, but a discount on pan fried pork dumplings was a nice bonus.

      • +2

Restaurants don't choose to participate in this deal, they aren't even notified. It's possible Dumplings Plus didn't know they were included and planned to reduce the price anyway, but story has it that quite a few restaurants once they noticed they were selected did increase prices.

    • +1

I have been ordering pick-up from the restaurants I usually dine at since this promotion started. I'm familiar with their prices and there's no price jacking so far.

Maybe you need to revise your options if you're experiencing price hikes.

  • +9

I have a dream- 2020 Uber eats edition:

I have a dream that one day I will order uber eats and the store wouldn't jack the prices making the promotion useless

I have a dream that one day when I'm trying to get use of a promotion, my neighbours order from the same store so I get free delivery as well.

    I have a dream

I have a dream that one day the order would arrive on time

    I have a dream

    • -2

Do you have any proof of price jacking?
Maybe you should pick up your own food?

    • +3

Uber takes 25%-30% of revenue from restaurants. Many have to increase prices to remain viable.

You could always talk to your neighbours and do a group order.

    • I have a dream that one day when I'm trying to get use of a promotion, my neighbours order from the same store so I get free delivery as well.

How do you do shared delivery?

This whole "promoting" venues is a disgrace asking for a 50% discount from the food vendors.

    • +1

Actually ubereats takes the 50% cut. The restaurant charges it's normal price, uber takes 30-35%, then discounts the bill by 50%. So in effect ubereats is making a 20% loss on these promotions.

      • -2

can you provide proof of that…

rarely does any middle man ever do that… ie Coles and Woolies strong arm their wholesalers to discount

        • Read the comments in yesterday's ubereats Chinese deal.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/547106

        • +6

Per Comment from link above: “Uber is funding this promo out of a huge "local business support" fund they created to try and fend off negative publicity for refusing to reduce their 30% cut on delivery orders. It also specifically says in the promo description on the website (which it would be illegal to lie in…) "Uber Eats will cover the daily deal"”

        • -1

When you click "Go to Deal" at the top of this page, Uber Eats say "It’s our shout! Uber Eats will cover the daily deal, so you'll be supporting your local restaurants with your order". Seems very clear. It's not unusual, delivery companies often fight for market share with subsidies like this. The best ones were from Deliveroo a couple of years back, I practically ate for free for weeks.

        • WHERE’s your proof? You come with strong accusations

      • +11

Hallo? Is this the moral police?

I'm sick and tired of people complaining about uber eats. Don't like it? Don't use it! Nobody forced the restaurants to use it. Nobody forced you to use it. If there are people are happy to pay the 30% surcharge, so be it. Who are you to dictate what others do with their money?

        • +4

Many are not aware of just how steep a commission UE takes, though covid has helped educate more on this.

When I've asked food places (northern suburbs of Melbourne) which delivery services they're signed up to and which takes the least from them, they've named several but lamented most orders cancel out as too few drivers, UE was more likely to complete. Damned if do or don't type scenario. I just rang direct to order and picked up instead.

          • +1

@barenesscessities: Who takes the least? I use DoorDash primarily now because I heard they are the 'best' out of the bunch.

            • @Plasma: Should we also consider employment? So many more Delivery drivers around and i dont think its due to increased covid demand.

            • +3

@Plasma: DoorDash are absolutely not the best at all. They're as predatory as Uber, in fact they're even worse to their delivery couriers. In the US, they got smacked down for reducing the pay to their couriers by any amount a customer tipped, so any tip to a courier was effectively stolen by DoorDash! In Australia, at least, tipping is not an option.

Right now until 30th June, if you're picking up, use Uber Eats with one of the daily coupons. Uber is paying for the 50% discount (so it's as if you paid full price) and the restaurant is not charged a service fee (pickup only, 30% for delivery) so they're not even eating credit card charges.

            • @Plasma: 2 I found who are more hospitality industry friendly:
              Mr Yum (www.mryum.com)

              4.5% [fee] per order.
No upfront costs or lock-in contracts. Includes GST, all payment/merchant fees, all SMS costs and unlimited customer service. Volume and group pricing available.

              Fair feed (fairfeed.com.au)

Cooked Fresh & Ready to Heat. Working with local restaurants and chefs to produce delicious ready-to-heat meals.
Collect from 256 Glen Eira Rd, Elsternwick or have your meals delivered to you. $10 from each delivery goes directly to FairFeed team members who’ve lost their jobs due to COVID-19.

Kyanar is absolutely correct on Door Dash's dodginess in USA

Hospitality industry friends have said ordering direct via food place's own site/phone and pick up is best for them, as able

          • +3

@barenesscessities: This, I only discovered how much of an increase the menus are on Uber eats vs in store during this weeks deals. Twice I did pick up and both times the in store menu as opposed to Uber eats menu prices were vastly different. 50% off and picking up still gives you a small discount but anything lower or if you get delivery then not as worth it

            • @lonewolf: I had the ING card April offer of UE free delivery (unsure if UE or food place absorbed this discount).
I also found most places had a price hiked (and diminished) UE menu.
Didn't end up taking advantage of the UE free delivery at all! Ordered direct and picked up - even just to breathe a different patch of outdoor air for that moment.
Regretted not making a maccas order at least though - I reckon they would have survived 😏

  • -5

Anyone using UberEats is killing the local food industry, not supporting it.

    • -1

Ah, the ultra-selfish have arrived to downvote. On OzBargain, no surprises there.

      • Actually during this deal you can absolutely support your local. Buy $50 of food for $25. Pay $25. Specify pickup, Uber Eats commission is 0% (until 30th June). Restaurant receives $50. Uber receives -$25. You receive $50 of food. Win win for everyone but the multinational.

        • +2

Yes, but it trains people to use them (obviously), then they go back to shafting the local businesses because people are too lazy to care, but generally not too lazy to lie to themselves.

          • -1

@mickeyjuiceman: You're seriously trying to argue against screwing Uber and getting half price food at their expense while your local restaurant doesn't even pay credit card fees on the order. Wow.

I checked the Chinese yesterday, between price jacking and delivery fee the was no significant savings.

  • +3

Had a good deal yesterday for the only participating Chinese restaurant within 5km of me, paid $14 for 2 boxes of food, one Chicken Pad Thai and One Special Fried Rice, both tasted awesome and box was filled to the top. Probs one of the rare times I have been incredibly satisfied with a deal.

  • Bene grazie

Is it just me or is the app really broken?

    • +1

It is a little fiddly, just need to restart the app if it acts up.

Great deal, pre-ordered for Tuesday from a local pizza place been meaning to try. Prices only $1 more than their normal menu prices so great deal!

      • So you can get the 50% off if pay today and get it another day?

        • i am pending a chinese meal from yesterday, delivering at 530pm tonight, will update if they can!

        • +1

I noticed that UE only completes the payment once the order is completed (delivered or pick up), so technically not paid today although the order went through and is "confirmed". Hopefully mooreshady below can confirm it works once dinner is successfully delivered.

          • +2

@Craze: i can confirm it works.

I ordered chinese food yesterday for delivery today.

            • @mooreshady: Awesome, thanks for confirming! Granted mine is a few days later, hopefully UE or the restaurant doesn't cancel it!

              • @Craze: i also doing the same for the next few days promo. so fingers-crossed! i order for next week tues

  • +1

I’ve tried 3 different restaurants, placed order and it popped up says that place is closing shop.
Does this mean they’re not open at all or ?

I did both schedule and pickup for 7 pm

    Any thoughts?

  • +1

Nothing about support local about it. Same deal like last year where 50% was off on checkout.

  • -1

I only ever end up with like 2 or 3 options and they are generally the pretty crap places :( Clickbait

    • I wouldn’t call it clickbait, plenty of options around me, and others are having the same experience based on comments on previous deals.

  • +1

How do we see the participating restaurants?

There is a specific italian restaurant I want to order from but not sure how to check if its doing the 50% off or not.

    • +2

Add the code in the Promotion screen for Uber eats.

If the store is open the 50% offer will show in purple at the bottom of the screen of the menu when open the restaurant.

If it's closed or unavailable right now you can't check until it's open. Usually if the restaurant is in the banner (front page of Uber Eats), the restaurant will run the offer.

  • +2

One of my locals have changed their chicken parmi from $17.95 to $29.95. I'm not fussed but are they allowed to Jack like that?

I can't comment on other menu prices because I've never ordered anything else, but $16.95 for bruschetta?

    • Can you confirm whether that is the price in store?

"Price jacking" is only allowed if the price is also increased in store.

    • resisting impulse to downvote for 'parmi'

But really yeah thats a huge price jack, and with how the deal works they aren't even losing any of this 50%, so they are really going for the money there.

  • I do not know why. Ops I have already use the code which I have not used? How to contact them?

  • Ordered two massive kebabs for $14.Family lunch sorted #stayhome

  • +2

There's a lot of people who seem very concerned about the 30% cut Uber is taking but are too lazy to call the restaurants in question to cut out the middleman.

  • -4

I got the Japanese discount on the first day, and it won't accept the voucher codes from me anymore. You only get the one discount during the whole period.

    • It's a different code each day. I've used at least 3 of these support local deals so you're definitely doing something wrong on your end.

Read the description as different state/territory will have different code

    • You're doing it wrong.

  • Thanks OP, got a deal with 2x large pizzas, g bread and a drink for under $20 delivered!

  • If I get a neighbour to order from the same store, how do we activate shared delivery?

  • I did part of an order to see if the code works, waited a little while then went back to add more tot he order and now it is saying not available

  • +1

Wow the cheapest place i can order from wants $25 for a small pizza or $33 for a large + $8 for delivery, tell em he's dreaming!

  • Can anyone confirm the full value of UE gift cards must be used in one transaction? i.e. if my total is $18 but I use a $20 gift card I won't be able to use $2 in another transaction?

    • +1

nope it doesn't have to be used at once, all credit is tied to that account and is prioritised once activated

      • Ah cool thanks! I read in T&C that "no change will be given" so wasn't sure

  • -2

Ordered a pizza and got a great pick up deal, thanks OP.

The shop was interesting. "Just so you know, give us a call next time as its easier. Uber takes 35%"

But I still paid less with this deal then the shop gets, and the App is so cool, I reckon its easier and better on UE, and the shop got a customer because of UE and gave the shop a little more money. Maybe Ill place another UE order tomorrow at this shop.

    • +1

the shop got a customer because of UE

I agree with this part. I tried a nearby restaurant that I wouldn't have ordered from if it weren't for this promotion. Food was really great so I'll be ordering from them again, but will place future orders directly with the restaurant to support them.

  • Ok i know this is contentious but I feel most people will just choose what ends up cheaper. If you can find an Italian ike i did which charges normal prices without price jacking, i got a marinara pasta and a pizza, both normal portions for $20 all up after the max $20 discount. Goes both ways, restaurants can't be on UberEats but don't want orders from it just cuz Uber takes their cut.

  • Ordered a pizza and the restaurant cancelled, now the code doesn't work for any other restaurant. Any ideas?
Nvm, seems that restaurant wasn't part of the promo

  • +2

wow.. was just loosing some weight and now this
