Foxtel Now Send Me a Bill Even Though I Don't Set up Any Credit Card Details

the story is, i got a free telstra trial and i signed it up and i totally forgot about it until i got an email from foxtel saying i got a $25 bill to pay, currently i log into the account and see the following message:

Your account is currently suspended. Please pay your outstanding bill of $25 to continue streaming your favourite shows.

To continue with your subscription, please save credit card details here to be billed by Foxtel.

since i never leave them any billing details, do i need to pay for this, anyone has similar experience?

Read the T&C from the trial. If you forgot about it and went passed the trial period without cancelling, your probably liable for the bill, registered credit card or not.

    • thanks for replying, this is something new for me, i meant i currently had netflix, stan, and i all have free trails with them before, but this foxtel now is the only thing that says you still need to pay after the trial if you didn't cancel.

    • *you're

      • well, i am just so pissed at myself, will be careful not to enter any of these free trials, it isn't really free with all the catches in there.

        • Many of the free trials need you to cancel in the same way. It's just most of them want your details so that it automatically renews.

So if your access carried on, you probably do owe it (but check the T&Cs). If your access shut off, then no you don't.

Maybe just take this as a lesson learnt and set a reminder in future.

          • @dizzle: thanks, i log into the account, it says account suspended, yep most of the trial requires billing details, so if i don't want them normally i cancelled them, but this one because doesn't requires billing, so i completely forgot it, well, lesson learned.

@reacher: I don't think they will chase you much for the $25 - I would leave it imo

I learned my lesson with foxtel years ago. I had some free trial offer that came with my Smart TV but the trials length was displaying wrong by like 2+ years. When it was actually meant to be 90 days.
Even though they sent a follow up email saying. "The length of the trial you just signed up to was incorrectly showing. We will email you once we fix the bug and get your real trial end date. So you're still able cancel your plan before you are billed if you wish."
No email ever existed next thing I received was a thanks for your payment and here is your itemised bill.

Called Foxtel and read the previous email that was sent and got "Yeah you're still liable for the bill no refund or partial refund will be given."
Foxtel isn't exactly a nice company to deal with. Blame customers for all issues is pretty much their motto. lol

    • yep, i saw plenty of these accidents on product reviews, the thing with this free trial offer is, i have issues signing it up and i can't find any support from telstra, in the end i gave up, i didn't even get this welcome email, and then suddenly, i got hit by this bill..

trying to talk to Telstra and get this auto message:

If you've taken up a Foxtel Now offer, we'll let you know when it's about to end so you can choose to continue or cancel your subscription.

i never receive any email about this, just double check my email again, so frustrating.

  • Hmm that reminds me, im on the 2 year free telstra deal too.. better check when it expires

  • Sneaky. But I guess it is like signing up to a phone plan. You don’t need to provide your credit card details but you need to pay at the end of the month.

  • Should have used fake name, fake address and a fake email. Wonder if they can do anything then?

  • lol, pay up OP, you did a trial and forgot to cancel not their problem. They still provided the service even if you didn't use it.

    • I agree on this one. When you sign up for the free trial, I’m pretty sure it also states that you will be charged after the trial ends. I know a lot of people miss this as they just keep hitting “next” without reading ts & cs

  • this is sorted, i talked to Telstra, and they gave me the $25 credit.

here is the whole story sum up, i saw the 3 months free trial of foxtel now from telstra, i tried to sign up, got error that i am not eligible, you can see the comment i placed in the original deal

so i gave up, i never received any welcome or account created email from foxtel now, until i got a bill one week ago.

and as per Telstra auto reply, they will remind you when the trial finished whether you want to cancel or renew, obviously i didn't receive any of these emails.

i am totally aware of the points above, but i never received any account creation email in the first place, thank you all for your comments, this can be closed now.
