Ford Falcon G6E 2012 - windscreen / headlight help

I was driving my car to the country over
the weekend and something hit my windscreen and a large crack appeared.

Obrien said I'll need to replace it and offered two models - Acoustic or Blue tint. They started at $600 and hustled themselves down to $425 for Acoustic and $340 for blue (it was really weird not having to ask for a better price).

  1. I can't figure out which one should go on my car. All I can find is a sticker saying:
    Laminated
    A3R00009
    AS1 DOT 481 M150-1
    Tinted Safety Glass
    12-AB

  2. Are the prices theyve offered good prices? Is there anyone else who you'd suggest or would price beat?

  3. My front left headlight is broken - should I replace both at once? And what's a good price for getting this done usually?

    I’d get a couple of prices off independent windscreen company in your area, O’Brien is always the most expensive.

    Yeah avoid O'Brien at all costs.
    They are a massive rip (usually cause they can charge peoples insurers direct)

    I use a place in South East called National Windscreens, far cheaper almost in every instance

      When I was working in Melbourne at a dealership, we always used National Windscreens and when I needed a windscreen for my own car, I used them as well. Never had any complaints or rework from them.

      I guess a windscreen company is only as good as their fitters at the end of the day. But yeah, never used O’Brien’s based mostly on price, they just couldn’t compete.

    Just add windscreen protection to your insurance & make a claim on it. Alot cheaper.

    They come standardwith “acoustic tint”,I have replaced a couple.they are laminated screen.Just stay with that.

          Let me clarify,it IS a Laminated screen,BUT they are a acoustic screen..(ALL vehicles have laminated screens)

    Just to translate your existing windscreen code:-

    AS1 = Is the clearest glass (at least 70% light transmission), is laminated, and can be used anywhere in a motor vehicle (typically just the windshield)

    DOT 481 = made by "SHANGHAI FUHUA GLASS COMPANY - CHINA"

    'Acoustic' glass means that the 'Polyvinyl butyral' (or PVB) laminate between the two sheets of glass is 'acoustic', rather than 'standard', hopefully making the cabin quieter'.

    In your case just go with what you had………….standard tinted laminate.

    Definitely get your headlight fixed asap. Just get some prices from Ford, Repco, Supercheap and Autobarn to compare.

    If it’s just the lens broken on the headlight you could potentially replace it yourself. Buy one from a wrecker. Check out some ford forums or google for the headlight replacement, might be easy just a few screws. , might require the whole front bumper to come off- like my old forester did.

    Get another quote for the windscreen. O’Brien’s are not the cheapest because they are the ‘default’ for people who don’t know.

    I've got a G6E and the headlight bulbs alone are a super pain to replace. The right requires the removal of the car battery and the right requires the removal of the air intake. If it's just the bulk replacement it can be done but your hand will get plenty of nicks and scratches. Replacement bulbs are about $20. Last about 6-7 years thought thank goodness…

    And another +1 for national windscreens. Have used them multiple times without issues.

      Totally agree!(headlight globes) I upgraded mine when I owned it,think from memory 120+.Only upgraded the high beams though.A real fiddle! Yup,the battery,taking it out! Real pain in the ass!!
