Gaming Laptop Choices

Hi all,

Been looking at some laptops and would like some opinions please. I was hoping to get a reasonably cheap gaming laptop. I only play Dota 2, but will use the laptop for everyday browsing, Netflix, YouTube etc. too.

I was hoping for 16GB Ram minimum.

One of the options I have found is this Razer, which looks quite reasonably priced, nice and slimline etc.

Could I get some opinions on this please and possible similar options?

Thanks!

  • That's not a bad option, Razers seem to hold up alright, the only thing i'd worry about is the ventilation being a slimline PC. Also this is the previous generation of processors (not that intel has really done anything revolutionary for a while now).

HP recently released their Omen 15 series which seems to be great value for money, better than the Asus A15 TUF, G14 or the new Acer Nitro 5. Maybe not as slim, but at the end of the day if you're gaming ventilation is priceless, thermal throttling due to sub par design on a laptop will make a high spec machine feel sluggish from day 1.

*Yes historically HP has had terrible thermals, so this looks to buck the trend.

    • Hey, thanks for your help!

I was hoping to try find something that doesn't typically look like a gaming PC as such. I want to be able to take it round with me, and have it still look sleek and professional. Do you know any options that might fit with this?

As I only play the one game, gaming isn't really a massive issue. I would like to have a good experience however.

      Thanks

      • Probably the asus G14 then

  • I have also noticed this which could be good..

  • Prior to COVID19 Dell had a few pretty good sales on gaming laptops on ebay but not computures and laptops have gone SUPER expensive i cant see'em getting cheaper until the pandemic is resolved and tensions with China are relaxed

  • I dont understand specs fully, but the following is $1706 with 'pdtech20' code and 3% cashrewards

  • I've got the 2070 15" Razer Blade Advanced and I can't fault it. Great build quality. the 1660Ti will be more than enough for DOTA. I play LoL and get 180FPS with the 2070.

    • How is the battery life of the razer?

      • I actually haven't used it to game without the charger (mostly cause the 2070 requires a lot of power for max performance. I have a Desktop at home with a 2080Ti and so this is only for when I am away with work. However, doing normal internet browsing or working on spreadsheets / word with battery only, I can easily get 6+ hours, so enough to last me a day of work.

  • I have the Aftershock Vapor 15, it's an Intel designed beast of a laptop, very thin, powerful with ridiculous battery life. check out reviews of it, it's called a Mag-15 in the US. Can't fault it!
