Honestly in the current market to get a Computer Science position you will likely have to work for free for 6-12 months to build up your CV or else move regional to get a position….

It is the worst time to graduate University unless you are working in Health Care

As for just 'getting a job' it warehousing etc I couldnt tell you right now the economy is f**ked and the excutives are cutting everywhere to keep there big salaries in-tacked

Not entirely true, especially when applying for CS related grad roles. Yes it would be nice to have some relevant experience on your resume however, if you have side projects, certifications, success in hackathons or something to show your passion then they will be more than happy to take a serious look at you.

Most students/hired getting hired at the biggest tech companies (ie Atlassian, Canvas, MYOB) have no meaningful experience but what makes them stand is their technical ability, passion and potential to grow as a young adult.

And yeah getting any job no matter what it is can be great for your overall mental health which will pay dividends in the future. Definitely don't give up hope

    • There are probably no job for CS in regional.

  • Maybe look up ATS resume scanning here: Link Your resume may have been rejected by software. You're in Sydney so don't lose hope and keep applying. Some of my first jobs after uni where actually were no job was posted. I emailed my resume to the company with no vacant job ads. They were just about to start a new search, so it worked out. Also going into the city and walking around can help.

    • this. remember you gotta usually get past HR before anyone technical reads your resume

Plenty of low level junk work available, but they want 24/7 availability.
Junk work that also allows you time to study is tough to find.

Youre also not a 'physically fit person who can also do heavy work', never say that

    • +2

everyone is physically fit and able to do heavy work until they've actually done heavy work for a job

      • As someone who has done 'heavy work', 9/10 people couldnt, or would even want, to do it
If you even think 'tradies' do 'heavy work', you are quite naive

What I can suggest to anyone actually wanting to do physical MANLY work, look into shipping container unloading, see how long you last ;)

        Try being a brickies labourer for a day… :-(

Probably lots of disinfecting jobs for public spaces and public transport going around.

  • Gotta get on dat leetcode grind. To be real though spend some time over the break working on your technical and soft skills. Build up your professional portfolio with dev projects, certifications and general learning. If you can't find a job, explore hackathons and other competitions that will really test the skills you have developed across uni.

If you can show you're a real self starter and enthusiastic to learn without been told by uni then you'll be ahead of 75% of other candidates

I hope you aren't writing resumes or cover letters like that.

    • Their writing style makes me think that OP may possibly be an international student and if that's the case, they'd only be limited to 40 hours of work a fortnight when uni resumes

    • It is one helluva sentence!

      • +1

Its a very long sentence, so many commas, there was only one full stop, it was right at the end, a full stop could have replaced so many of those commas, but not totally disastrous, I've seen much worse, where the commas and full stops aren't even in places that make sense, or where there's no punctuation at all, just one really long sentence, the end.

  • Where are you located? If you’re in Melbourne, Telstra is hiring for positions out of Clayton.

  • Plenty of jobs around according to Morrison.

  • Do you have linkedin? do you have github? what's your CV look like?

    • Yeah i have all the above three. shall i PM you the link?

  • Another option is figure out a biz by yourself or with associates as jobs are going to be very difficult in the foreseeable future in lots of fields .
