UberEats tips for delivery man

I just realize Uber Eats app allows tip for the delivery man. I ordered something with %50 Thai food code and saw a man riding with his bike in this cold weather to deliver, no argument about price jack and stuffs. After giving him a tip in the app, I feel a bit weird … it should be cash ! The question is how's the tip get to him? Anybody know how it works ? Definitely I'll do cash next time, not much but show my appreciation to the hard work. I'm longtime ozbargained with a warm heart in this cold :)

Cheers,

100% of the tips you give on Uber Eats go directly to delivery partners and are always an addition to their trip earnings.

    • Can anyone confirm that they’ve actually received it?

      • +4

Yes, we receive 100% of the tips customers give us.

but do you have to add that to your income in which you have to pay tax. That means you dont get 100% of tip money.

@Mentallysick: So? You should be declaring your tips as income and you should be paying tax on it. Do you condone tax evasion? Anyway, if you want to participate in that you can give your Uber delivery driver coins or cash.

  • Might want to check if your chips are not missing first

Say NO to tipping! This is Australia.

I wouldn't say tipping is a bad thing, if you're provided with exceptional service then I would be more than happy to throw some shrapnel or maybe a nice $5 note for the good experience. As a delivery driver for an independent takeaway shop, tips are always greatly appreciated but never expected.

Generally I would agree. However things are a bit crap for a lot of people at the moment, and if someone is working hard and you can afford to give them a little bit of cash, good on you.

    • Stagflation disagrees with you! :P

    • I'd like to tip you $1 for your comment.

    • This is Australia and unfortunately there are still some industries that underpay and exploit their workers. I don't see the harm in giving someone a tip, especially if it is your individual choice to to do so.

      • +2

The problem is that tipping and subsiding those industries does not improve employee conditions.

I wish it were different and I have felt tempted to tip, but it’s really not the best in the long run.

THose Uber Eats people are some of the poorest people in AUstralia. Tipping is fine.

I'm pretty sure the tip you give via the app is added on to their weekly pay and therefore is taxed. If you have a few coins laying around I'm sure that would make your drivers day!

    • Yes, the ATO expects people to pay tax on their tips so a few cashies to the lowest paid workers wouldn't go astray.

  • I hate that it asks/shows me the tipping amount selector 3 times.

    • I reckon. First they ask you to tip the restaurant (after Uber takes 35% of their takings), then it asks you to tip the driver.

I've always been curious about their pay. Can anyone shed any light on how UberEats delivery men/women get paid?

    • -3

How do you think they get paid? In potatoes?

      • To be more specific… i am asking about their pay conditions. Do they get paid on the number or deliveries, is it a percentage of the order amount? does the distance for delivery come into play?

But i guess you already knew what i was asking, you just chose to be 'that' person on the internet.

        • +2

We get paid on the distance from the restaurant to the customer.

Other food delivery companies pay from where you are when you get the order to the restaurant, and then from the restaurant to the customer.

  • If theres free delivery, tip $1 auto

    • +1

Can you still tip a specific amount? Last time I ordered the app only offered a %. i.e 15% of the order.

It would be nice if rather than price jack the restaurants prices and taking a large cut they pay their riders a decent wage. Australian's shouldn't have to tip, this is why we have minimum wages, that unfortunately Uber doesn't have to conform to.

  • There are videos of people doing deliveries on YT that explain how it works.
