Will My Powerbank Damage My Dell XPS 15 2-in-1?

Hi there,

I have a Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 (9575), I'm wondering if using my current powerbank to charge it will do any harm? Or will it just be a slow charge?

My USB-C Powerbank specs: 15000mAh (3.6V) (Max 40W).

Thanks.

  • Depending on the quality of the Power bank it should not damage the laptop. But battery wise that might be an issue in terms of battery health? Your laptop is rated to charge at 130W so if you were to charge it, it would be very very slow.

  • You probably wont be able to charge while using the laptop - it'll be a charge while packed away kind of deal.

You might actually find that using the laptop with the external battery plugged in might actually make your laptop drain faster (constant switching between internal and external power leading to excessive heatloss)

"If you’re up on your USB Power Delivery specs, you know the maximum output for USB-C charging today is 100 watts, which is a little low for performance-oriented laptops. To get around this limitation, Dell’s USB-C brick identifies the laptop first. If it’s a Dell model that supports the higher output, you get up to 130 watts."
