Please Help! I Want to Send Some Items from Melbourne AUS to Asian Countries (Vietnam, ThaiLand)

Hi

Please help! I want to send some items from Melbourne AUS to Asian countries (VietNam, Thailand) VIA DHL Express Service but wondering how they work

  • Do I need to use their package box or I can use my own box to pack the items?
  • Should I declare before I pack the box or declare it after ? (just only Electronic devices)
  • Where to drop off the box for shipping Or I can just order DHL service to come to my place and pick up ?(As I saw in their website they can pick up at convenient location. Which one is better and cheap?)
  • My friends in VN and ThaiLand who receive the items. Do they need to pay extra tax to get it ?

PS: I never use DHL before so please specific

Thanks

Have you tried calling DHL and asking them?

1 - Either way, you can ask for DHL box, but they might charge you extra.
2 - You'll declare when you book with DHL. Packing can be done before or after.
3 - You can do it at their office, or book a pick-up service at your place. Ofc pick-up costs more.
4 - Depends on items and local regulations. You really have to check the relevant custom regulation.

DHL is great for big and bulky, post office give better rates otherwise

    Are you exporting Covid19?

  • Go the post office to send it there, doesn't need to be DHL :)
They have all the things you need.

  • Use Sendle.com
They have tracking and are very reasonable and far cheaper than Aus Post and can pick up from your door

    I just came back from DHL (ADE). Assuming protocol is the same at all DHL depots;
    - It is better for you to go there and use their boxes(they will pack for you).
    - They will thoroughly check through all items when packing your goods.
    - The cost is higher but better delivery times (especially now)
    - With your electronic goods they will open the box and go through it all
(A lady was sending a new phone and they opened the and went through the contents, even flipped through the manual in the box!)

Just check with australia post(call or online) that you can send to those countries as due to no flights their international services are limited. I called auspost to check if posting to a country was available, they said yes. i went there and when they tried to process the packages, they said services were unavailable.

From my experience DHL is very reliable and fast but expensive and better for bulk parcels. My parcel to India was collected by a third party from home as I was too far away from their depot. They asked me what the contents were when being picked up and went through the contents again at the depot before the package was sealed. Do look into their restrictions and they are not keen on shipping electronic items with lithium batteries. As with the customs you will have to find it what the fees are from the respective countries. I think they pay it first and only release the goods once the payment is made if there is any. In my case it was quite hefty

    • thanks, that helps a lot

have a good day , mate
