    Wow, that was quick.
Get it so they can see people clearly love good RTS games, and they decide to remaster TS and RA2.

    • +4

The ai and pathing is terrible lol. I think total annihilation is a better modern day classic rts

      • +1

I love TA, it still works on steam :D

      • there's ashes of singularity to fill that void.

      • They didn't really change it from the original, doesn't seem like the remasters purpose was to fix those issue :(

  • +12

    Ooh C&c, killer soundtrack.

    • The remastered is even better!

      • +2

the Tiberian Sons Live concert is even better!

      • +2

Thanks, got it for free from a recent deal from gog.

  • +1

Anyway to get these on iPad ?

    • +1

Only by streaming it from a computer via an app like steam link.

  • +3

Ok, looks like I’ll be switching back to windows…

    • +2

No need to switch back to Windows, it works perfectly >90% of the time using Steam Play!

      https://www.protondb.com/app/1213210

      • What! Are you serious!? What app do I need to download onto my Mac?

Also, I have an old MacBook Air… 2014. Core i5 4260u chipset (haswell). According to cpu boss the chipset should be able to handle the minimum requirements of the game. Same for the integrated (hd5000) Intel gpu.

        • Steam Play is (still) not available on MacOS yet and with MacOS 10.15 Catalina's 64bit app only restriction, it's making it harder for Steam Play to come out from what I can see…

More info on the official MacOS support issue on the official Proton Github: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1344

          • @duyfken: hmm, too much effort. Elsewhere, SC2 stopped working on my machine (OSX 10.15.4) randomly. I enjoyed replaying missions and i'm unsure if the problem is going to be fixed/patched. At the moment SC2 is a waste of 30gb of SSD. Unsure if i'll stay with mac when they go ARM CPUs. The wife has a microsoft surface laptop 3, which is quite nice. Decent keyboard, crisp bright display, etc. i'm not too keen on the air vents though… Hopefully it doesn't clog with dust.

  • +7

Oh great. I only just got 'conscript reporting' out of my head

Great, now I'm just repeating that song in my head, and slightly out loud.

    • +2

      For the Union!

      • Checking designs.

        • +1

          At least I have job

  • Will this run on my r9-3900x?

Love the C&C classics from back in the day.

    • Yep, no problem at all.

    • +10

U should have got 3950x if you wanted to play cc

      • I haven't played a PC (or any) game in over 20 years :p so no idea if a fast PC will run a classic (but remastered) game.

        • +2

          haha lol.
I was joking. As BBear mentioned it's remastered to run on modern systems.
What GPU do you have out of interest?

    • +2

Being remastered, it will run fine on modern systems.

    • -1

Yes but it will still lag.

Remember this is designed for single-core processors, so your latest multi-core processor won't actually do much.

I have a modern day gaming PC (not as powerful as yours though, but still a very good one) but when I have a huge blob army I've spent the last hour building up, it's slowed down to 20-30fps.

      • I’m surprised, was running at like 130 frames plus with my 3600.

  • -1

    15% off I dunno

    • Yet, up votes

      • +1

        Its good, but only 15%…

  • +4

Fond memories in my childhood of playing Click & Collect

    • Yes, bring back your childhood memory, especially the hell march music.
The remastered is well done, but playing it again, the game is OK compares to modern RTS game these days.

  • +7

Can you hotkey buildings in the remaster?

    They need to remaster Generals

    • +2

Yes you can. Agree! Hope they remaster Generals too.

    • Agreed. The greatest C&C of all. My only concern is that some of the voices and lines used may not be accepted today.

      • +1

Yeah, I'd expect the heavily accented Chinese and suicide bomber stuff to catch a fair bit of flak. Real shame

        • +3

Bet they'll also remove the World Trade Center mission in RA2 Remaster or massively alter it. Will Sofia still tell you to capture the pathetic capitalist shrine known as the world trade center?
Its gonna be a funny commentary on real life seeing how Russia got to mind control the US President in the campaign.

          • @payton: @payton: This is classic. Now I really really want to see generals remastered. Actually, I want to see a demonsouls-like complete remake.

I cried when cnc4 was the death of the IP.

      • This is why far left ideology needs to be stomped. Fascism hiding under the guise of moral superiority. They're the Taliban of the western world.

  • +1

    Welcome back, Commander

    • +1

      Lt.Eva?

    • That feeling when you think someone has the same name as you… And then you realise they joined 5 years before you did.

      • I’m the OG, you’re the Remastered.

        • At least I am not a sequel like cnc4.

  • great remastering
although if I had waited a couple of weeks, i would of saved $5
    ah well
    actually worth full price tbh

    • Yeah, I knew the steam sale was coming up but bought it full price anyway. $30 is a steal :)

      • +2

They had my money at C&C. When I first loaded it I was like "oh snap, it comes with RA too ?!"

        hahahahaha

also I'm a terrible commander and many NOD soldiers have died needlessly

        • hahaha! same XD

  • +1

Loved this game when I use to play PC, one of my favorites.

  • +6

I remember being stuck on a stage for 36 hours . The long range turret from memory had a stuck enemy across the water . Did i quit , did I take a break , did I leave the computer (even had the dominos delivered to my bedroom ) ? Absolutely not . What a great game - along with original Starcraft , absolutely incredible fun .

    • +2

Did i quit , did I take a break , did I leave the computer (even had the dominos delivered to my bedroom ) ? Absolutely not .

Back in those days my way of "saving" progress in a skirmish game was to leave the PC running 24/7 with C&C paused if I couldn't finish a game before bed time or needed to go somewhere. It did used to crash the game a lot, as it wasn't stable running for prolonged periods of time but that was the closest we had to saving skirmish games back then.

  • Good times indeed.

  • +3

    So frustrating… no Red Alert 2… 😭
Still, should be a great game…

    • To be fair, they released it at $30. Can't complain!

  • +1

    Multiplayer?

    • +1

      yup

  • Price is good but can't be as good as the DOS version because the low pixel count meant the enemy surprised you alot (the viewable area was small and the map wasn't much chop) which was great fun

The old windows version was too high rez lol.

    • Use the scroll-wheel and you can zoom right in, providing a narrower field of view :)

  • -4

Still too expensive I won't pay for it til it drops to $10

    • Too expensive? Seriously… 😐

      • +2

Same. Will buy it when less than $10. I know I don't have the time and will never play (though, when I was a kid, must have raked up 5000 hrs on this game). Thus, will like to support it as only pirated copies were available where I lived.

        • +3

I can't believe you just said that.

I would have thought you'd be buying FULL price now if you put 5000 hours into it with a pirated copy…

          • @justtoreply: LOL! 🍻

          • -1

@justtoreply: I hear you. I was planning to buy the latest version until the reviews came in and also what they did with series. They didn't fix this bug that always bugged me (no pun intended). Thus, supporting/buying the full copy made no sense as Westwood Studios is no more when I could finally afford a PC and the game.

E.g. I bought every single Final Fantasy game on the PC but didn't play most of them to support them for all fun I had.

            • +1

@samkenny: I hope you understand that buying it you'll be supporting the developer Petroglyph Games, which consists of key ex-Westwood Studios members. They were the main studio behind the whole project. EA owns the IP and published the final bundle.

        • Same boat I never have the time to play with young kids around

Got a gaming laptop, Switch, PS4 lots of title including PS plus no time to play

  • +1

    quality title.

  • +6

Am a big fan of the C&C series, and still have my original c&c discs, worn out by some 100+ hrs of gameplay. My honest opinion of the remaster is that it's good for nostalgia seekers, but the gameplay is really not worthy of 2020 (covid puns aside :). Most of the bugs and annoyances that existed in 1996 still linger, and really, this was an opportunity missed by the devs. At the very least, I expected C&C mechanics deployed in later games to be introduced / improvised upon in this remaster, but that didn't happen. The (much hyped) remastered OST is a bit of a letdown — as a big VGM fan, I expected more creative effort to be put in. The game will still do well, and is a must for any RTS fan, but it was a bit of a bummer for me.

    Bring on the brickbats.

Edit: I see someone already mentioned openra.net. That's what I'm talking about! :)

    • +2

veterancy, garrisoning buildings, infantry inside mobile buildings/vehicles, the super versatile IFV, gaining new techs using spies. Can't wait for RA2+Yuri, or Generals remaster.

idk what happened to the remastered music. They sound terrible, lacking the punch of the classics.
      Exhibit A
      vs
      Exhibit B
Not to mention the Soviets in RA1 is a bit gimped, the Allies have much more options in their arsenal.

Workmen in the remaster is horrid!
      Original

      • +1

You don't need to remaster generals just get the mod running o make it high resolution with ini file modified…

    • Sure. But again, it's priced such that it wasn't a full rework

    • -1

Precisely only good for nostalgic reasons. Its not worth two lunches for me

RTS is dead in the waters

      • I'm hoping Microsoft will revive the genre with AoE4 (although the original team not being there anymore is a damper). The game studios team has been on a roll, so counting on them!!

    • Check out the workshop, there are a few mods trying to clean up some of the bugs.

  • 100+ votes for $5 off

You got to be kidding me lol

    • Yeah I was pretty surprised. The Remaster has been extremely well received though.

  • I'd love zero hour . Imagine a fixed multi player.
