Nice! Must have missed that one…

      • Signed up with them but always end up using Europcar, they always end up cheaper to me.

Am weary of Hertz ever since they tried the faulty cigaret lighter repair fee trick on my partners car hire. If you google it you will see they try and claim such hidden items are broken even if never used (multiple people complain of similar treatment)They tried to add $2-300 or so to the bill so never again rent a Hertz. They eventually removed fake repair bill after threats of complaints to authorities. Use at own risk!

Had that with a "flat spare tyre". Never checked the spare tyre for damage before….
Then again had the same issue with other agencies where I dropped off a rental and "returned it late". Had to threaten with chargeback and proof the opposite. I guess they're all the same.

This deal is for Flexicar though, I have no experiences with them. GoGet once charged me for damage another user left and didn't report ($500 lesson).

I've heard similar complaints of all rental companies. However, I've rented a lot from Hertz and they never tried that on me. I do take photos of the exterior, bit never the interior like spare tyres - didn't even know that was a thing either.

However, I have a corporate account at Hertz and wonder if that has anything to do with that as they know they could lose a corporate customer if they tried anything dodgy.

      • Recently did corporate Hertz and they were nice enough to 'not charge me for the deflated spare tyre'.

They did however give me a Corolla when my company booked "Full size", because it was a small Hertz and they gave out their vehicles by first come first serve…WTH?!
It was the only vehicle left, so it was either that or nothing.

        • Most Hertz have a first come first serve policy. However, our corporate policy says we can only ever book the cheapest class… so most of the time, when I walk up on the last flight of the night, I get upgraded a couple of levels as that is all that is left. This is very very common in Canberra Airport Hertz atleast. I once went for 8 weeks getting upgraded to SUVs every single week. :)

  • When I researched it at the time was assuming it was a one off random rip off, but was surprised how often the hertz name came up, at multiple locations suggesting it’s a somewhat organised practice. Hertz Corporate users might be exempt but customers should not have to inspect spare tyres, video cigaret lighters working and take extra pics lol. Plenty of other places to rent from where I’ve never had such issues. Your mileage may vary, just stating my experience.

  • Carshare is such a great idea and as a non-owner of a car, I am a strong supporter.

However the pricing is astronomical. $10 per hour or $60 per day?
Any decent Ozbargainer can rent a car for $10 per day.

They'll say this is because it includes fuel, but fuel doesn't cost that much, sorry.
