8GB White iPod Touch (4G) - $194 - Harvey Norman

50

Comes with iOS 5 out of the box, so no need to spend hours downloading the update through the slow iTunes servers.

The black model is also currently the same price but has been a little cheaper or come with bonuses in the past few weeks/months elsewhere, so it's not that much of a bargain for the black model, but here's a deal for the new white models!

I probably wouldn't buy it from HN just yet unless you're really desperate as other stores will probably follow suit and drop their prices as well in the coming days, although $194 is cheaper than the pre-order prices other stores wanted.

EDIT: Officeworks have now updated their price to $194 - http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/iPo…

It took me 20 minutes to download iOS 5.

Besides, this will be the standard pricing.

It took me 15 minutes. Are you on 256k or something?

      • Wow, you should have got in early then. I started my download yesterday morning about 6am (2 or so hours after launch).

        BTW, ADSL2 on ii

        • Chances are, the server your iTunes have chosen is not from the farm of servers in Australia (read; Akamai CDN).

Closing and restarting your iTunes would probably have made a difference, as it had to reselect a new server. This will also only work if your DNS server entries on your machine are located in Australia, pulling Australian IP addresses.

However, the first few hours after launch, Apple did have their servers do an Error 503 timeout due to the heavy traffic. But that subsided quickly.

Looks like OW have lowered their price too.

    Neh, don't care. Apple sucks.

    • Ehh.. Just checked OW, DSE, HN, etc and HN was the cheapest. OW must've just updated their site because 5 minutes ago it wasn't at $194.

I think OW and some other retailers use crawlers to monitor their competitor's prices. If the price difference is within a certain range, its likely changed automatically - its cheaper to match the price than have lots of customers come in store and ask for price beat (5%).

It's the exact same model as last year, nothing has changed except the software update and new colour. What a disappointment!

It's been on the radio a few times today that Dick Smith has the New iPod 4G White 8GB for $189. I haven't been able to confirm this though as I've been at work all day. Maybe someone near a DSE can confirm?
