Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey 1L $71.95 @ Dan Murphy's

250

Gentleman Jack is charcoal mellowed not once, but twice for ultimate smoothness. Their hand-crafted barrels are matured exclusively on the bottom 2 floors of the barrel-house where the climate is less intense for softer, lighter flavour.

  • Good price, great bourbon,
Just higher than the historical low of $69.90

Still wish i picked up the Canadian Club offer though

  • Not a bourbon drinker, though I do like the 1907 (for its plainness, if I want oak I'll drink scotch)

Just dropping in to say this is actually very drinkable. Even neat.

Smoother than monkey shoulder or Woodford reserve imho, though those have more depth of flavour.

    • Interesting. As a Bourbon I find it over rated for the price and pretty much the same as normal JD Black (once you add a bit of water or melt an ice cube in it). So to me it's watered down JD.

      • I think it's slightly better booze than regular black (less of the stomach tightening one gets with bad spirits like JW red).

But yes I agree that it's not a "great bourbon" if great means full of flavour and character. Basically my endorsement was in the vein of "if you don't really like the taste of barrel matured spirits and don't know what you're buying, this isn't terrible given its a litre for 70 bucks".
