Best $29 prepaid deal or cheaper Telstra recharges?

I'm currently on Telstra prepaid, $30 doesn't really get you much ex ept for a better network connection than Vodafone or Optus.

Is there any way to get better value on a Telstra prepaid deal? Or what's a good deal on the Vodafone network? (I'm never touching Optus again!)

  • EzyRecharge are giving $15 cash back on recharges of $40 or more if you use PayPal.

    • Not really much use in the long term…

There is a limit of one Cashback per PayPal account

  • +1

Change your plan to "Telstra pre paid simplicity" through your #125 menu. Google it first, gives you rates comparable with amaysim but on telstra (15c/min calls without a flagfall and 12c SMS to any network) data is 10c/MB

    • Wow, thanks for pointing that out! I switched to Telstra to get better network coverage and speed, but never got even close to the limits on a $30 prepaid cap plan… this should do much better.

    • But with this, using 500MB of data would be $50… I'm sure as far as calling and texting go this would be a good plan, but the only reason I really use Telstra is for the fact that it's 3G network actually works…

      • Buy a data pack.

        • They are hugely overpriced - a lot more expensive than the $30 prepaid.

    • Before doing this, make sure you change to long life, and then recharge with $60+

      Then me2u/ebay is your friend.

  • Let's do some maths… I am pretty sure this is correct (somebody please check)

    A) Charge $30 on the Talk and Text prepaid…
    - Use $10 to buy a 1GB Data Pack
    - Use $20 to buy extra talk packs

Call cost 35c connect and 80c/min - allowing 2 mins per call, say $2 each = 20 mins

But you get 100 mins bonus + 200 texts bonus

    TOTALS: 120 Mins talk + 1.5GB Data + 200 texts

    B) Charge $20 Prepaid Simplicity
    - Plus pay extra $10 for a 1GB data pack (thus total = $30)

Talk = 15c per minute (AU) = 133 mins talk

TOTALS: 133 mins talk + 1.0GB Data + ZERO texts

You get 13 minutes more talk, but 0.5Gb less data and no texts. The SMS are only 12c each, but you lose almost a minute of talk time for each SMS you send. You'd only need to send 16 SMS per month before you'd chew up the 13 mins advantage.

At that $30 price point, Simplicity does not look like a better deal.

    • Where did the 1.5GB come from? do you get 500mb bonus?

Also, last time i checked, $10 got you 200mb on prepaid. You're looking at the post paid options.

      http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/prepaid/extras.html

And also, i'm not sure, but 1c texts could still apply under simplicity.

And the $2 per 2 mins is a bit misleading, for me anyway. 90% of my calls are under 1 minute and that makes it significantly cheaper to use simplicity.

      Regular =

      35c + 80c = 115 cents

Giving you 17.4 minutes of talk time ($20)

      Simplicity

      15c

Giving you 133 minutes of talk time ($20)

      Depends what you're using.
And btw, i'm not on simplicity :P
