Nintendo Switch Dock TV Connection Playing up

Issue was noticed aince last week but that time didn’t think of it.

Last night console turned on in dock mode but tv no response. My PS4 and tv connection is perfect
I had to unplug everything and turn it back on then seems to be fine. I will try tonight again if there is an issue.

The switch practically lives in the dock as we don’t go out anymore

Bought in nov 2019 from hardly normal. Technician said it’s fine to just send in the dock only (but looking at about two months wait) but I use the switch mainly for ringfit so need it with tv.

Any ideas? I will try a different hdmi cable tonight as well as per technician

  • Whenever there is a game/system update I usually have problems connecting my switch to the tv. The updates start automatically so I don't realize until it's too late.

I have to shut down the switch for a couple minutes afterwards otherwise it won't connect to the tv.

  • I had the same problem a few months ago. The switch started flickering while in docked mode for a few days before and eventually no HDMI output at all. The dock was still charging my Switch just fine.

Tried unplugging everything from the dock for 1 min then tried plugging in the power, then HDMI, then switch as suggested by some forums online without any luck. I also tried multiple powerbricks, cables, TVs, HDMI output modes and turning the Switch off fully. In the end gave up and sent the dock in for repairs.

That was back in May and I just got the dock back from Nintendo early this week. I picked up an USBC to HDMI Adapter on EBay which is a good stand in while I waited. The only downside I don't have a stand for the Switch while its connected to the TV. Heck a lot cheaper than a new dock that's for sure.

Hope you can get your dock working.

Try cleaning all the ports, and use a air can spray

  • If your dock doesn't work, as an alternative you can also get a USB-C to HDMI adapter that works with the Switch.
    No dock required !

Not all USB-C -> HDMI adapters will work, I think they need to be powered maybe ?

    I have this one
