Any exclusions? And can you buy in store?

    • +2

This. How does one use this offer to buy in store? Do the stores use the same product code/SKU as listed on the website?

In that case I guess it's possible to try in store and then buy online?

      • also cashback is only online :C

You're right. Best option is to go into specs (go to the bigger store though.) to try and then go online to buy w/cashback and code.

Hi guys, just thought I'd share with you my experience case it helps you guys out there.

I went in store to ask them about this offer because I have a high prescription and it won't let me order online. So don't bother trying to order online for high prescriptions, it's not possible because the lens thickness may not be compatible with the frames you're selecting. In addition to that they need to manually check in their system whether the frame you've selected has a lens size which permits them to cut it based on the required index / thickness. They need you to come in store for this.

In any case, when I told them about the code, the staff told me she had to ring head office. She came back and informed me that this offer is only for online. So I think you have to try your luck on different staff.

She asked me where I found the offer and without selling out on my OzBargain bros I just said a mate sent it to me. Long story short, i made it known I was price conscious and didn't want to pay too much out of pocket after my health fund rebate. She couldn't find a proper pair of frames under the $199 that could fit my high prescription lens, so she offered to discount one from the $249 range to that of the $199 range to get the sale. I was happy with that cos she really worked hard running through all the frames into the system to check which ones they could cut lens for. I paid approx $139 out of pocket (I need 1.75 index frames otherwise I'd look like I'm wearing two telescopes)

In any case what I would recommend people on here is negotiate down their frames. I've always reckoned they aren't worth anything, and now that I know they can move on them, I certainly will be quoting this sale for future purchases

        Hope this helps you guys

Went for a checkup today at specs and asked if the 50% promo can be used in-store. It worked! I just showed them the code and they were happy to help.

      • Is the check up free or has to use Medicare?

        • Complete and comprehensive test is recommended so they can track your eye health.
Free if you have a Medicare card, depending on when your last test was, age, etc
          https://www.specsavers.com.au/eye-health/eye-tests/bulk-bill…

          https://www.canstar.com.au/health-insurance/eye-test-cost/
"The Medicare rebate for a comprehensive initial eye consultation with a patient is $57.70, and many optometrists don’t charge any further costs or fees above this amount.

Eligible Medicare card holders aged under 65 years of age can claim the cost of a standard eye test on Medicare once every three years, unless they experience new symptoms (such as blurriness or headaches) or have a pre-existing condition (such as glaucoma), in which case they may be able to claim a rebate more often as required for the condition. Those aged 65 and over can claim the cost of the test once a year. "

        • Mine was through Medicare.

  • $199 min. Spend to get the 50% off

It is 50% off a $199 minimum spend and valid on only one pair of glasses until 14 July 2020.

  • 50 percent off but still make profit?

    • Well they offer 2-for-1 pricing on most of their range most of the time, this just means you get that pricing without buying 2. It's basically normal pricing for them.

  • Is there a way to purchase just the frames? My prescription has expired and would like to get the it renewed in-store when (hopefully) covid is over

    • +2

Unless you want designer frames, try ZenniOptical.

      • Thanks Travis J! Yes im eyeing some designer frames :)

Might depend on where you are but I read somewhere on the website last night that their stores had re-openend.

  • can't see anywhere to put code in for glasses?

      should have gone to Specsavers

      • arf .. so where is it ?

      • dat pun

Why does this keep popping up? "We would like to assist you with your purchase. To make sure that the glasses you have selected are right for you we recommend that one of our eyecare professionals gets in touch with you to assist with your we will be in touch shortly to complete your order." Don't want to go through any staff

    • Same issue. Super annoying

      • Seems like it's because of a high prescription.

  • ahh damn, got my prescription sent to me and most of the info is missing CYL AXS PD.

Guess i can't buy more glasses atm

    • You probably don't have astigmatism, ie no cyl or axis. Pd is pupillary distance, distance btw two eyes. Various ways to measure it yourselves, but at your own risk! Most places likely happy to measure pd for u, some may charge though.

      • cheers, its a risk. If i didnt have astig i'd enter the values as 0, not blank. imo No PD suggests it wasnt entered properly.

        • Not necessary though. Most optometrists don't measure pd, it doesn't give any info for the eyes. Optical dispensers should though when dispensing glasses.

Doesn't hurt anyway to be safe though :)

  • Is it possible to claim from HBF?

  • So I'm confused. Is this better than the 2 prescription glasses/sunglasses for $200?

    • Its the same deal without a 2-pair minimum. So yes, it's a better deal.

      • Not if you have insurance which covers the $200 right? To make the most of your insurance.

        • Generally your insurance is something like 60% of the cost, up to say $200 total savings.

So you'd need to be 'spending' almost $400 to 'maximise your savings' that way.

I consider something a better deal if I can get the same discount proportion at a lower spend. If you still want two of them, that's fine.

          • +1

@runean: Actually, only a few insurances that do % back to up to say 200 250 pending on policy. From memory, NIB and Qantas insurance do that.

Most like YellowKnight said, give you a certain amount to spend on optical, and when exceeding limits, out of your own pockets.

    • $40 glasses for the win.

    • Last time I got glasses I bought 2 identical pairs. In hindsight I should have got 1 transition. Buying another 2 pairs seems a bit over kill

I've only ever had bad experiences at specsavers…
Guess they're ok if you don't mind being rushed. They generally use cheap/poor quality lenses too. I only go to independents now.
Wouldn't touch specsavers with a ten foot pole!

    • How do you determine if an independent is good?

      • I would first check their Google rating and reviews. You are treated more as a human and less as a number.
PM me if you want a rec in the inner western suburbs.

        • Yep, Specsavers refused point blank to use my name, insisted on using a randomly generated code - NOT. You must have encountered a bad franchise (are they franchises?).

From my observations when I've been to Specsavers either browsing or buying every customer and enquiry was handled with friendly and efficient human customer service.

    • What's the quality like compared to OPSM, do you know?

I'm a bit tempted by Specsavers' variety of frames, I wonder if you can mix and match frames and lenses.

      • Yeah a few years ago I tried OPSM to get better lenses. They tend to use the bigger brands but I've found that they actually charge more than independent optometrists who have access to the same brands at a lower cost.
You can really buy frames from anywhere and just take them to your local optometrist to get accurate lenses put in.

    • Absolutely nothing wrong with any of the lenses I've had from them and there is certainly nothing rushed in the process from my three experiences in their store. The Belconnen ACT store has an excellent young optometrist and all the (many) store attendants go through the choices, procedures, your needs etc in great detail (easily observed as you wait your turn). On top of that I've found them to go the extra yard in order to get the best deal available if you have health insurance. Might depend on the store but I rate the Belconnen staff, service, product 10/10.

What was "poor quality" about yours @ gyozahat?

      • Well it's hard to describe because I didn't realise they were poor quality until I tried better ones from a different optometrist. Kind of like when you eat normal beef, and then you try wagyu… (sorry i cant think of a better example). I'd say overall less straining on my eyes from the better lenses. And now I also wear computer glasses to relieve any strain whilst working from home.

  • Ordered two pairs in late April, quoted two weeks due to Covid-19. Received the first pair after 4 weeks after numerous calls. Then the second pair late June. Never call or message me as they promised. Kept blaming the lab, saying they didn't receive the lens or the frame. Anyway, will not deal with them ever again.

  • Private health membership discount is stacking with 50% off?

  • Never ordered glasses online before from them so just confirming here…

My Bupa account covers $150 per year per member for glasses.
I am interested in buying Tommy Hilfiger TH 65 frame ( currently advertised under : 2 pairs from $299)
    https://www.specsavers.com.au/glasses/th-65?sku=25667219
    my questions are:
    1. Can I just get one pair ( instead of two) for $150 with this deal (SBSPECS))? OR I will get two pairs for $150 with this deal (SBSPECS))?
    2. How to register on this website?
    3. I need to add some extra to default single vision lens.
Looks like when I choose the frame and added my details, there is direct "Submit" button, I cannot see where to add lens (extra feature like Polarising or Drivewear etc).
How to choose/add the lens online to go with this frame? And also where to enter this code?

Essentially, I am trying to buy semi-rimless frame ( single vision glasses) with no/low out of pocket gap from my Bupa cover.

    Appreciate your help guys! Thanks.

      1. Single pair only
      2. You don't need to register, its optional.
      3. You can add extras which will increase the price after you put your prescription details in.
      4. You can claim your bupa cover with your receipt directly with your health fund.
      • Thanks.

Re : 3. You can add extras which will increase the price after you put your prescription details in.

But after I enter prescription details and personal details, it directly asks me to "Submit" option/button and it never ask for any extras.
Do we get to add extra after "submit" ? Exactly at what stage we add the extras?

Re : 4 You can claim your bupa cover with your receipt directly with your health fund.

You mean we just pay full whatever we have to when placing order online and then goto BUPA and submit the claim ?
        Little confused about it ;(

Sorry one more dumb question …. can we show this CODE instore and get the deal?
If yes, what do we tell the store rep about the source CODE details?

        • You cannot use the code in store.

Click on submit and then you will see lens options, this is prior to paying for the glasses. Make sure you enter the promo code before paying, which will give you the discount.

If you are unsure how to claim your glasses just check with Bupa first whether you can use your receipt and how to claim.

  • Purchased a single frame, got $125 off plus $13 cash back. Note if you add your health fund and it reduces the single frames to under $200 you will not get the deal. I had to remove my health fund.
In the check out it says to add another frame in the $145 or up range for free but this does not work, so don't waste time trying unless you want to pay double.

    • so can you then claim your health fund rebate manually by showing health fund invoice? do you know?

  • "We would like to assist you with your purchase. To make sure that the glasses you have selected are right for you we recommend that one of our eyecare professionals gets in touch with you to assist with your we will be in touch shortly to complete your order."

Guess my prescription is too high. Store I visited unaware of the promotion and cannot honour it…

  • I am not sure 50% and health rebate stacks? Glasses is $299 but still charging half price even after putting in health fund? Mine pays $120 but yet this is not taken off in cart? Can one claim health fund manually by showing invoice?

  • OP, Why is this marked expired?

Offer says…"Expires in 7 hours" from now.
