Use an internal 512GB SSD… and combine use case with an external 2TB HDD ?

Are you talking about upgrading the internal storage? The MacBook Airs have never used hard drives. They have flash storage.

Here are your options if you want to go DIY: https://www.macfixit.com.au/owc-ssd-drives/macbook-air/2013-…
    Not cheap.

Otherwise for additional internal storage you can get a high capacity micro SD card and a flush SD adapter like this one: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Short-Micro-SD-SDHC-TF-Card-Adap…
    Much cheaper.

If you're talking about an external drive, you can use anything. If you can't write to it after plugging it in, just format it using Disk Utility.

    • These are basically your only options, since the Macbook Air uses it own proprietary SSD.

  • following - i have the exact same MBA and want to do the exact same thing.
