Price matched at Amazon too, which will get you Prime shipping and 6% cashback from Cashrewards….

    • nice champ!

    • +1

Actually, it seems much more likely Dan Murphys just did their usual and price matched a competitor (this time Amazon), as I got a price drop notification from camelcamelcamel about the Amazon price drop at 10:03AWST (1 hour and 44 minutes before this "bargain" was posted).

    • I'm in the cheaper states and I can pick up this afternoon!

    • Out of stock on Amazon now

    • unavailable at Amazon :(

  • +2

Gah showing $88.75 for me? I've logged into my Dan's account too

    • +1

      Seeing the same as well.

    • Dan's now does different prices for different states. The main things are normally the same price but friends in Vic and myself have seen a number of spirits and beers cheaper in Vic then they are in SA.

      • We need something to do while on lockdown…

      • I'm in Vic and $88.75 is still a great price but under $80 would've been amazing

        • Its 79.95 in SA. First time I have seen prices from Dan cheaper in SA.

        • Rel81 your instant messages are blocked, i could help you with this. let me know

    • Me too $88.75 in Vic

      • Use the Amazon link below to get it at the bargain price.

  • I can't find any specials on coke. But you could stack this with the 50% off Pepsi at coles.

    • nice!

    • Should I try the veal?

    • +4

      That's a paddling.

      • ?

        • +3

Going to hazard a guess that the paddlin' is for wasting a good whisky with sugary swill

        • If you don't like the taste of whisky, stick to beer.

          • +1

@Aeongrave: Or just drink the cheap stuff lol

            • @itsHughesy: Agree, nothing exactly wrong with having your scotch with coke, but no point spending $100 for a bottle then having it with coke. If that is what you want to do, just get something cheaper.

Been to a pub lately and asked for scotch+coke? You usually end up with Dewars and its like $50 a bottle, tastes fine with coke, wouldn't drink it neat though.

          • @Aeongrave: whisky + coke is a proper cocktail

taste better than on rocks imo.
            but i like sweet stuff

    • +1

check the dark web for coke mate

  • Nice, been eyeing this one off for a while.

  • +1

$79.95 in WA too. I got one for $88.75 during EOFY sale recently… will have to consider hard if I should pass this or not. Such a brilliant whisky.

  • +1

what taste can you compare this one to?

    • +1

sherry, aberlour 12/macallan 12 but BETTER

      • better than macallan 12 seems like a fairly big call but only one way to find out!

        • sorry.. .IMO. and we're talking about the new released sherry oak 12yo. not the old school $$$ macallan 12s.

        • +3

The general consensus within the whisky community it that Aberlour 12 and Glendronach 12 are much better than Macallan 12, especially when you take price into account. Macallan is very good at marketing and is seen as one of the very top whiskys, so you pay a premium on this front.

          • @yesitisme: fair enough, i've tried both aberlour 12 and macallan 12 but not this so looking forward to rectifying that.

          • @yesitisme: So it's the Apple of whiskies?

      • +2

Way way way better than Mac 12. The new Macs aren't what they used to be. Glendronach is a sherry house - their 15 and 18yo are spectacular!

      • If you get a chance pick up the Glendronach 18. It is actually 24 yrs old if you pick up the 2019 bottling. It is also just the Olorosso cask - not the mixed. The prices of the Olorosso 15 revival glendronach went up to $500 once they discontinued it. I grabbed 3, one opened and 2 saved ( of the 18). Haven't found a 15 revival in Australia. (You can get the new revival thou, Olorosso and PX cask)

        • +1

          I thought 18yo bottle + 6 years = 18yo?

          • +1

@muncan: Glendronach actually shut down for many years. They reopened and released their aged whiskey. Due to production and demand they released year on year, but did not have any 15 or 18 in the barrel . It was 16 and 19, the next year 17, 20. Why they didn't label it a 18 or a 15, not specifically sure. The 2019 (available at Dan's online), is the last year with an older whiskey in it. You can google it and find out more (they didn't barrel any whiskey for a while)I have a bottle of 21 and 18. The 18 Olorosso is more darker in colour. So yes it is labelled 18, but they didn't have 18 to put in it they only had 24 at the closest. The 2020 bottling will have an 18. The company was bought up the same US company that bought Ben Riach. For me, just a hunch and a tip, this whiskey will increase year on year in price.

        • Have a 2019 bottling of the GD 18 and personally I don't love it.

          • @billbro: It is strong, needs a dash of water, heavily sherried, but I love that. You are right it is suited to some and it is not something you can have many of. My big cheaper fav's are the 16 Lagavun, 14 yr Oban, 12 Glendronach, Archie Rose Malt Whiskey (made in Sydney and whiskey of the year). I also like the Glenmorangie Nector Dor, but that keeps creeping up in price- started out at just under $80. I used to love Japanese whiskeys many a year ago, but the prices have gone stupid. I don't like all their NOA range and there are a lot of blends. I have been lucky enough to try some old Ben Nevis, Glenlivet and Macallans all Sherried and incredible

        • It might be 24 years old but its not a 24 year old aged whiskey. You can keep that for 100 years and it would still be an 18 year old, it does not age in the bottle.

Edit: Unless you are saying it remained in the barrel due to being shutdown or whatever?
