Anybody with any experience crossing north by car over last week? Wondering if driving late at night would significantly cut down waiting time.

Go through the Gold Coast highway diversion. Only detours by about 5 mins total.
Did it this morning around 8am on the main highway, added about 5 minutes to the trip.
Merged to one lane, rolled along at 40kmh for about a km and that was it.
Drove north through the border at 2pm yesterday, only added an extra 15 minutes to my trip
