I'm looking for a budget laptop for uni work youtube videos that's all, and looked at few sites but nothing I could see was great. I was actually thinking whether to get a chrome book…would that be a sufficient replacement. No plans for gaming- just youtube and word processing/powerpoints. Require a new one

Why not a chromebook ?
Secondhand/refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad, or mac if so inclined.
I'm a fan of the Carbon x1's, the build quality and battery life are great, these can be had for ~$500 depending on generation from reputable refurbished resellers on ebay. Could take a gamble with marketplace if keen. Otherwise the T series is a slightly bulkier, more powerful option.
Honestly they're bombproof machines with great battery life (provided it hasn't been run down) although replacing them is fairly simple.

For less than $700 I would suggest the Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5 from Amazon US for $409 + freight/GST (I am guessing all up $680-700)
or depending on how flexible your budget it, you can get an Acer Chromebook Spin 713 for USD $529 + freight/GST costs (I am guessing all up $875-900)
Lenovo has FHD screen 10th gen i5, 4GB and 64GB SSD not sure if upgradable but speakers and webcam would be better than Acer
Acer has a brighter 400nit 2k screen, 10th gen i5, 8GB and a 128GB SSD that can be upgraded.
I just ordered the acer when I saw it on sale.

Update - my bestbuy order got cancelled unfortunately.
Maybe look into the older Microsoft Surface pros?
Or something refurbished from companies like HP, Dell, Asus or Lenovo.
If local is a must (for warranty) and you could add an extra $38, you could get the lenovo Chromebook Flex with 8GB and 128 GB SSD (Replaceable)

my previous laptop for word and youtube had i5 3210m, and it has around passmark score of 2500. (and 8gb, 240 ssd)
When I opened large word or excel files, it showed some lag but relatively I could bear its speed.
So I can say, if you buy less then passmark score less then 2500, you might feel some annoying.
And dont buy chrome book.
