Paying $2.60 to Pick up a Parcel at Australia Post

I'm really confused.

The courier didn't even knock on my door. I was home all day, and then I got this 'pick up to collect slip' to pick up from the Post Office. It also says to pay $2.60

I've never gotten these before but never had to pay. It's really strange.

Has anyone gotten these before?

What's the reason for the extra payment? Insufficient postage from sender?

  • Where did you buy from?

    It could be GST.

    • They chase customs duty but not gst.

I've ve gotten these before but never had to pay

They didn't deliver it as the postage was 'short' on it. As you owe postage, it is sent straight to the post office so you can pay/pickup.

  • The fee is for insufficient postage. The LPO will ask addressee to pay for the shortage.

It may be related to this. Did you by any chance order a free coffee sample?

I have no idea what it is
It might be a sample but I didn't order coffee

    So I think I'll pass.

    Is that German for 'forgotten'?

  • Didnt order anything?. Dont know what it is?. Just leave it be.

  • It might be a sample

If (it is alleged by Australia Post that) insufficient postage has been paid by the sender and the item has been sent by an Australian Business, Aust Post should not levy the receiver but instead the sender, often inexperienced postal workers simply charge the receiver and try to move on - if this is the case ask to speak to the postal manager and dispute the necessity to pay as a receiver.

Something like this happened in my local area. It was the local real estate agency sending out spam to houses, and making them pay the $2.6 to receive it. AusPost wasn't able to tell you what the letter was until you paid for the marketing…

  • I'll let it get sent back to the sender and they will be informed that it was inefficient funds.

  • No didn't know that. But PO also wants $2.50 for every document certified. Chemist is free.
