AmEx Travel Credit after Card Cancellation

Currently have the $450 travel credit with the AmEx ultimate card and the year has almost finished. I'm thinking of cancelling my card to take advantage of another cards sign up offer before I have to pay another annual fee, perhaps ANZ.

Does anyone know if I can still keep my existing $450 travel credit after i cancel my card?

  • You should be able to if you’ve paid that year’s card fee, but you should check the T+Cs, they will set out all conditions of redeeming it.

I don't know your particular Amex Card, but with mine the travel credits expire at approx the same time as renewal is due.

    • afaik they extended them due to covid? I think?

      • Is there a link to this info? Would love to find out more.

        • If customers haven’t redeemed their American Express Travel Credits (which expire between 1 February 2020 and 30 June 2020), Amex is extending the expiry date to the end of the year, 31 December 2020.

The extensions will be placed automatically, and the expiry date will be updated in the next six to ten weeks and be visible in their Online Account.

Just remember, the terms and conditions of the Amex Travel Credits remain the same despite the extended expiry dates. For example, customers can still book a trip up to ten months in advance.
