Quality Bed Sheets

Looking for some quality bed sheets, how do you differentiate between what is good or not? Some claim thread count matters, some claim it doesn't etc. A lot of them say 'hotel quality' and seem to be constantly heavily discounted.

Why Linen Sheets Don’t Have A Thread Count

"While it's tecnhically true that a high thread count—usually sitting at around the 400 or 430 point—is a sign that your sheets are going to be like clouds, experts believe that we shouldn’t be slave to thread counts. In fact, they argue that high thread counts are often an indication that your sheets will be less pleasant to sleep in, as astronomical thread counts in the 800 or 1200 range can’t be produced organically. When you see a thread count nudging the 1000 mark you need to know that all those extra threads have been woven into the fabric artificially, usually by machine or other manufacturing device. In short, thread counts might be a bit misleading. But where things start to get really confusing is in the linen category."

That's not strictly true. Linen bed sheets do have a thread count of about 100-150.

My Target 1000 thread count sheet set was ~$80 on special and is a noticeable difference on my previous 300 TC sheet set. Although anything above 500 is going to do the job.

Egyptian cotton is generally the best, bamboo is up there as well. However i'd be wary of those that just sell based on the thread count as many of these have polyester interwoven which cheapens the sheet and doesn't allow it to breathe as well.

Either way, get a 500-1000 tc bamboo or cotton set and you'll be happy.

Got these from Costco and they seem to be well made, particularly the fitted sheet.

    • i miss when Sheridan was Aussie made stuff.
My dad worked for them back in the 80's

i guess thats why they always have a 40% off sale

lol designed, just like engineered in Germany.. for a car ad (cant remember which car brand) :P

  • Just slept on the Ecosa sheets the other day and holy moly, they are beyond comfortable. Have stayed in many many 5* properties and in my mind these sheets trumped all of theirs. 100% bamboo, about $200 for the sheet sets so pretty pricey but if they last would definitely be worth it.

  • Bamboo seems to be highly regarded, any idea how to tell good quality bamboo cotton/ sheets? Is there a big difference between the bamboo sheets from kmart and elsewhere?
