No Bike Stock in Sydney

I have been looking to buy two adult bicycles (M and L) especially for brands like Giant (ATX2 or Talon 3), Cannondale (Trail 5, 7 or 8), Trek, for daily riding in suburbs but I don't seem to find any stock available in Sydney.
Expensive models are available but the price tags are like $3k and up and these are overkill for casual riders like me.
Any advice if I can find some stocks available in Sydney with budget around $800??

    FB marketplace.

  • Bicycles online some decent Marin & Polygon bikes in stock in that price range. Free 14 day return if you're not happy with the bikes.

Not lying this seems to be the case with a lot of things. Especially in high density suburbs in Sydney, good luck getting anything on OzBargain because of how many people live here. I was looking for a certain quilt cover at Ikea the other day online, all sold out at stores in Sydney but Melbourne had stock in 2 of the stores. Absolute joke.

Really sucks to be honest. For instance my local Coles is often out of broccoli when I stop by after work. L oh freaking L.

      • I was just about to make a joke about us having more cases as well but oh well lol.

      • We’ve got lots of toilet paper in our stores though

Had a temporary placement in a bike shop during covid and unfortunately the timing/manufacturer supplies could not of been worse.

Every man and his dog decided to take up cycling overnight come lockdown which placed huge pressures on bikeshops, with many unable to restock.

In addition to this china shutting down didn't help as well as the timing of the new season which is approx September delivering stock later in the year resulting in a huge deficit of bikes in the short term that the distributors didn't forsee. We were selling bikes at full RRP, with customers literally arguing over bikes which was very rare for us and now can't get replacement stock.

Your best bet is facebook marketplace or gumtree. At least until September/October

  • also no brompton bikes anywhere in this country

    • A friend just ordered a Brompton bike in the UK, they have presold every bike they are building this year.

Opshops. I was bike mechanic in large opshop in Cairns before lockdown, we regularly were donated half-decent (among a lot of shite) bikes and I tried to churn them out. There were some brgains to be had for $30-50, but a lot of stuff was overpriced (but not by me!).

  • because ubereats are mass hiring

    • Only game in town right now.

Wait it out a little - There will be plenty for sale once people who thought they wanted to cycle and get fit during Covid realise they just want to sit at home and eat Pizza

    • Good point. Buy Domino's pizza shares!

Not for much long now that the feds wants to cut back jk and is.

  • Have sent you a PM

  • Yep. Upon lockdown the only exercise many people thought they could do was cycling (it is actually a good choice). Then others decided they needed a bike so they didn’t have to get on public transport. Combined with a disrupted supply chain and you have a perfect storm for no stock available.

    Be patient, you’ll find something.

You might find second hand, but even they are selling fast. It took a couple of months for friends to buy a similar bike as OP for their son. Everything is selling quickly.

Lol and here I am with my nice road bike at home sitting unused . I’ve been working out from home using body weight exercises instead .

  • I saw Xiaomi QiCycle deal sold by Kogan at $699 (plus delivery) this morning and thought that bike isn’t for me. Not knowing exactly what ebike is now I feel like I want it but the deal is gone.
Should I consider this bike over the traditional push bikes? Any advice?

    • A $700 e-bike is going to be the cheapest of cheap. It’s your money, but not recommended.

E-bikes will give you some electric assist to make riding easier, at the cost of extra weight and complexity. Depends on what sort of riding you want to do.

  • Ive been trying to buy my 9yo a bike in Adelaide without any luck as well. Just a big W one would do.

    • Do not buy bikes from those retailers (eg. kmart, target, big w, etc).
I bought a kid bike from Target two years ago, it took me hours to assemble and things started to fall off after a couple of months use, and eventually I had to chuck it away.

      • Thats terrible. Big W sell some brands like diamondback so I was hoping to stick to a known brand but as mentioned cant find stock of the size my kid needs anyway!

        • The big w diamond backs are not the same as they were. While they are a bit better than their bottom of the barrel offerings, they are still not very good. Especially the suspension models. Big W know they are trading on the history of the brand and using it to market rubbish bikes.

Buy a second hand bike shop brand.

  • look on bikexchange.com.au it is a marketplace used by lots of independent bike shops. If a bikeshop in your area has the bike you are after chances are they'll be advertising it on there ….. but as others have said, apparently stock is low at the moment.
