DJI Tello Drone (White) $127 + Free Shipping / CC @ David Jones

200

DJI Tello is a great first drone, I wanted something that was able to maintain hover by itself but not cost too much.

Good fun for both adults and kids, control using your mobile phone or purchase external controller accessory.

This is the cheapest I could find for brand new.

  • In the Box:

    1x Propeller Removal Toll

How come they can build a thing that can fly itself but can't (profanity) spell one of the simplest words?

    • maybe try bashing our mainstream media instead for spelling and grammar mistakes lol

    • +4

Your gripe is with DJs (who can barely maintain a functional website) not DJI who spell correctly.

      • Hahaha, fair point; these idiots can't even copy-paste correctly. No wonder their sales figures have been plummeting for a while now

    • -3

It is from a Chinese company their first language isn't English so it could be a reason for them not spelling simplest word correctly.

    • maybe it’s not? You just need to pay a toll every time you remove the propeller

    • -3

If we have to write in Chinese characters, we'll make (profanity) errors too. If you keep being a spelling nazi, you won't last long on the Internet. If you truly love to correct people's English spelling, typo (notice how the letter 'o' is close to the letter 'l') and grammar, feel free to knock yourself out on YouTube, Facebook, etc.

  • Not a bad price for today, but for reference these have previously sold $100-120 when on discounts.

I bought a combo pack for these. It's a fun toy for a moment but don't expect stability or camera quality like the other DJI drones. Using the phone as a controller is a little awkward but you get used to it. The other advantage they have other more serious drones is that they're so light, they don't have nearly the same restrictions, so you have a lot more flexibility in flying locations (not that you can get them that high but could make for some cool shots)

  • Is this small enough and don't need any license?

    • You don't need a license, it's small.

      • Because it is small, you don't need a license.

        • +6

A license you do not need, small it is.

          • +1

@damion: A license is not needed, as it is small

    • Hanofee, excellent question!

      • Excellent question, Hanofee

  • seems to be around $169 elsewhere (JB, Harvey Norman)

Hand in ur ozb badge mate for looking at those websites for reference :). This price is quite ordinary, been $99 a couple of times, and $116 multiple times when I searched ozb. Even Amazon is currently $145

  • Want to have a drone to check my roof damage after a storm. Is this a good fit for that purpose?

    • +1

sure is! The camera feed is pretty good https://youtu.be/5SWYkVVPisI?t=255

    • Haven't got one, but looking at this video I'd say so

    • The video footage is reasonable for the price, some examples online and you are able to play with bitrate in the settings.

    • +1

Note that the camera is in a fixed forward position, so depending on the angle of your roof you're might only going be able to get moving shots as the drone is level when it is stationary, as opposed to angled forward whilst moving.

    • Just don't try it when a breeze is nearby.
The slightest breeze will take this thing a mile.

    • I used my dji spark for the same purpose and it’s almost impossible to control over wifi from phone as there’s too much interference, a controller connected directly to phone is a must.

Got one ordered price beat from office works ..but the chick who took the order said the order will need approval from a manager ..so let see if it’s gets through ..Thanks op

  • Ordered one. Seems like a decent price for an entry level drone with cheap props etc. Should be fun!

  • +1

I just placed my order with Office Works over the phone and it went through straight. $120.65 :-)

    Thanks OP

    • Yeah ,ditto mate..was your order approved though ? Did you get a confirmation email ?

      • +1

Nope, but they've taken the money.

      • +1

        I got my confirmation now.

    • Isn’t it cheaper to get DavidJones 8% gift card ? Comes down to ~116.

      • Where were you 19hr and 40 minutes ago to suggest this :-)

I'll try to remember next time! thanks

  • Any remote controller recommendation for this?

    • I have purchased this https://www.digidirect.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=gamesi…
during 15% off sale and really good to have, well made and good quality as well

Please note DigiDirect took 8 weeks to deliver my remote controller, may be I am an unluckiest person :-(

      • Bloody hell mate, these things are expensive ..you reckon they worth this much ?

        • I agree it is very expensive, but it is worth to have it, if you are intention to use it for long otherwise don't bother just use the phone.
The reason I bought the remote controller especially for my kids.

There are some youtube videos they discussed about using xBox or PS4 controllers, but I never tried.

      • +1

I have seen good reviews for this one thanks for the info.

  • Anyone have experience with this? I'm seeing real world usage of about 5-10 mins battery and drop offs from around 10-12 metres out. Anyone had any similar or different experiences?

    • +1

It is true, the battery lasts for 10-12 minutes depends on the wind/breeze, I didn’t see less than 10 minutes. I would recommend to have an additional battery which I did.

Drops off can’t really comment as I didn’t fly over 11 meters.

But overall i like the drone and kids love it. The video quality is not bad either
      Hope this is helps

      • Ah that's awesome, thanks for this! Sounds reasonable for the price then

    • Yes I'm seeing the same for battery. It is longer than 10min but at around 7min it enters low battery mode, limiting maneuvers.

Max range achieved around 20m, never really pushed it as didn't have the environment to do it.
