Looking for Recommendations on How to Do My Australian Taxes from Overseas

I've tried the ATO website and app and they both give me an error (OID001). I tried in many ways and nothing. If someone can help that be great or if there's a website you recommend to get them done. (Income less than 20k) Thank You.

Have you tried using a VPN?

  • Use a tax agent may be?

Why bother if you’re overseas and aren’t going to pay any tax?

    • If you have rental income you must file a tax return and pay 32.5% from the first $1 of income. Unless you want them to confiscate your property.

      https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/international-tax-for-ind…

      Residency and tax categories
      Foreign residents
If you're a foreign resident for tax purposes you must declare on your tax return any income earned in Australia, including:

      employment income
      rental income
      Australian pensions and annuities
      capital gains on Australian assets.
      As a foreign resident:

      you have no tax-free threshold
you do not pay the Medicare levy
the capital gain on your Australian home may need to be included if you are a foreign resident at the time you sign the contract of sale.
If you have a Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) or Trade Support Loan (TSL) debt you'll need to declare your worldwide income or lodge a non-lodgment advice. You can do this using our online services via myGov or through a registered Australian tax agent. The Study and training loan repayment calculator will help you find out your compulsory repayment or overseas levy amounts.

  • Have you tired running a Private/Incognito window in your browser?

  • A relative living overseas in the same position as OP. Last year we resorted to printing out the form, filling it in, sending the signature page as a photo for them to print, sign and re-photo, print that signed page and insert it into the tax pack, and then submitted the forms via mail.

  • You can use Etax - costs about $70 if you pay up front. I wouldn't typically reccomend them, but in your case it's probably the most cost effective method if you want to lodge online through a tax agent.

Are you staying overseas and coming back here or are you a foreign resident trying to do their Australian tax return because you have income sourced in Australia?

    • foreign resident trying to do their Australian tax return because you have income sourced in Australia.

  • Ive had no problem doing it from overseas for the past 5 years. I either use chrome or edge browser. Its getting any tax financial help that is difficult. If you pay too much, theyre not going to let you know.

Does the error ID relate to anything? There is no way they would block people from overseas filling in a tax form, unless theyre happy for you as an individual or corporation to not pay any tax.

    • Tried chrome i get error A951.07 while using a vpn.
      Same result no vpn.

I'm speaking from experience, you don't need VPN in order to access ATO website to file your taxes using your MyGov account. I was able to login a week ago to do a quick check on my tax estimates (from California). What I do have is my mobile phone with my AU number, which MyGov sends the authentication code to verify your identity. If you can, I would try to call ATO (I know while overseas) to check your account settings to see why you can't login.

    • Yes, my overseas relative no longer had an Aust mobile to receive the auth code.
