Oneplus 8 Pro 5G (8GB, 128GB) A$992.29 + Shipping @ BuyBuyBox

200

Sub $1000 for the Glacial Green colour. Cheapest I've ever seen a Oneplus 8 Pro 5G go for

Note that this is a grey import, meaning it is the Chinese Model (IN2020) which does not have band 28.

Saying that, Australian users on the OnePlus forum have been able to get 5G working with VoLTE, VoWiFi icon & VoWiFi Calling.

  • Has OnePlus started selling via their Aus store again, I just got an email for the Nord?

    • +1

After I saw there was an Australian product page for the Nord on their site, I emailed asking if it was coming to Aus, this was the response:

"Thank you for your great interest in our product. We are regret that OnePlus Nord is not available in Australia."

I replied asking for clarity on whether it would EVENTUALLY come to Australia, but no response.

  • $992.29 + Shipping

Once you add shipping it will be over the threshold and you'll get stung with GST + duty.

I ordered this same phone from Buybuybox at $1120 (the 12gb/256gb version) and was not charged GST/import fees.

      • Any update on this? Did you receive the item yet? Any problems with the customs?

      • Sorry to bother you, but can you please let me know how long before they actually ship. I bought a phone on Thursday and they haven't shipped yet. Just getting a little concerned now as they do not respond to any messages either.

    • Any imports now cost GST, there's no $1000 min exemption anymore.

      • there's no $1000 min exemption

Only if the overseas store/seller bothers to collect on behalf of ATO.

        • True, but if they don't, there is a GOOD chance it will get stopped at customs and a declaration sent to you to pay tax before the item is released…
They do actually check that these days.

          • @nicholsonr: They go by the declaration that the store has used. For example if this store BuyBuyBox under declares it as $900 in total with shipping, then no, customs won't hold it.

@m9: Uhh… yes they will, if the invoice doesn't have tax incl somewhere they will hold it….
If you would rather buy from a shady site to try and dodge tax then you deserve all the hassles that come with it.

I've bought tons from Massdrop/Drop all ranging between AU$500-AU$950 and haven't had a single package held by customs. Massdrop/Drop does declare the correct amount but since it's under the threshold I did not have to pay for GST even if the attached invoice did not have any GST component on it.

This is uncalled for. I was referring to Massdrop/Drop. They are not required to collect GST on behalf of ATO and they are not doing so. There's nothing illegal or dodgy about this. The included invoice clearly states the correct value of the item and because it's below the threshold, no GST is due.

I also bought a AU$750 DAC from Shenzhen Audio and was not charged GST when it arrived, and yes, the invoice shows the correct value of the item. There's no GST component on the invoice as Shenzhen Audio does not collect GST.

I now have the Drop + THX Panda headphones on route and should arrive within a week or two. This is under AU$600. If you want I'll let you know after it arrives if I was charged GST.

BTW just out of curiosity, which sites were you referring to? That if the invoice does not include any GST, customs will hold it and charge GST even if they are under the $1000 threshold? Not trying to start an argument but genuinely curious as I've never encountered this.

For those interested in Global Variant, should buy EU Model IN2023 which has Band 28 for 4G and also 5G bands that work perfectly in Australia.

    OnePlus 8 Pro:
There are four model variants available depending on the country of intended use: IN2020 (China), IN2023 (Europe/Asia), IN2021 (India), and IN2025 (NA/USA).

    OnePlus 8:
There are four model variants available depending on the country of intended use: IN2010 (China), IN2013 (Europe/Asia), IN2011 (India), and IN2015 (NA/USA).

    • The IN2023 which seems to be the only other easily available model is $1500+ for the Pro for most places, and the 8 is around $1050+.
I just paid $1200~ For the Interstellar Glow 12/256 model from Kogan (which should be the IN2013 variant).
Edit: I've been stalking prices for this phone, I REALLY wanted one.
The OnePlus Nord is a good alternative but for the price difference and exclusivity its not worth trying to source one over the 8

These phones are plagued with screen issues(green tint). Buyer beware.

Takes a little bit of looking around but successfully got 5G, VoWifi, VoLTE all working on IN2020 model on Telstra network too

    • Do we need to tweak any settings?

      • yep - the IN2020 model did not appear to support VoLTE or VoWifi on Telstra out of the box.. needed to install a few things, and run a few command prompts.
