KrisFlyer Account to Be Closed

I received an email the other day from Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer saying "Your account will expire if you don’t make a qualifying transaction within 18 months of your enrollment as a KrisFlyer member."

I asked customer service if they can delay it but they said there is no option unfortunately.

We had a flight booked for September but that is not going to happen. Has anyone got any suggestions on how I can earn points?

I checked the online shop but they are all overseas businesses that I have found so far, so not keen on that unless there are no other alternatives.

Thanks in advance.

  • what is a qualifying transaction?
Does transferring points from another membership work count?

    • Yeah I guess so but we don’t have any points on another account unfortunately.

FFS, considering the above, how do Singapore Airlines justify this crappy service / customer relations, especially with COVID and travel restrictions.

I thought they're supposed to be known for having high standards..

    • Yeah my thoughts exactly I was shocked when they responded with that.

    • Thanks that is great for Qantas or Velocity but not for KrisFlyer.

  • You can buy stuff from KrisShop - is that a qualifying transaction?

A Qualifying Transaction shall refer to any of the following transactions:

    • Miles accrued or redeemed on flown flights on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Scoot
    • Miles accrual from partners
    • Transfer of points from partner programmes to KrisFlyer
    • Submission of retrospective mileage claims for flown flights
    • KrisShop accrual transactions
    • KrisPay accrual transactions and miles conversions

Virgin Australia is also a partner.
Buying something on KrisShop is the easiest.
You can also book car hire and stay in hotels through Krisflyer portals.

There's a few Australian things on Krisfler Spree…you could buy something from Menulog.
Also note that if you have points, they will still expire after 3 years, if you have no points then you can just reopen an account I guess.

  • My son's account was due to be closed. I rang on his behalf as he was in South America and they agreed to defer closure for 6 months. This was last December. I suggest you keep calling until you find someone who will help you.

    • Will do, I have found that each person that got back to me would give a different response.
