Just a heads up on the dangers of baby slings

Warning on baby slings after boy's death

Baby slings are as dangerous as any other product that isn't used correctly. Under no circumstance should you wear a baby under several layers of clothing, slings are made to be worn on the outside of clothing. Just the same as you shouldn't cover a baby with a quilt and fill it's cot with toys and pillows. Used correctly baby slings are safe.

I disagree baycie. Yes, there is general agreement that they are safer when used correctly.

But when a child safety expert describes to his peers in a medical journal the dangers associated with the posture promoted by slings etc - and the ACC issue a similar warning: that's an opinion I want to read and at least consider.

I don't mean this as a personal attack, but unless your professional qualifications trump theirs I think you're asserting opinion as fact.

@chadiwrx's comment is irrelevant and misleading. There isn't a danger with slings, there's a dnager with people stuffing their children under their jumpers… And like with any product, when you misuse it, there are dangers…

Easy sunshinetalia. I'm all for debate but I think that chadiwrx raised a very appropriate point: be aware.

The abc link chadiwrx provided gives some expert advice (potential dangers:
      * be careful/aware of sling implications when it comes to baby posture & airway
      * slings may have been a factor (or used improperly) in recent deaths
      * head and face position, and the changing of some US/Canadian laws in response to 16 deaths.

When I buy a baby product I want to know what other experiences people have had: including pitfalls and dangers.

Nobody said slings were inherently dangerous. Chadiwrx said there are dangers worth being aware of.

yeah, like don't use one when base jumping or scuba diving.
