    Scam?

      Probably

      • So let me get this right. They will optimise our tax return. So we will be full liable for falsely claiming deductions based on their app.

        Yea nah nah.

      • Hey @jayboi,

        Thanks for your input.

        We confirm that this is a valid and currently active promo code.

        The TaxFox app is live on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Apps are checked scrutinised,before they are approved by the app stores.

        If you have not been able to successfully use the code, please let us know and we will identify what the issue may be and ensure that the offer remains valid for you even if all units are used up.

        Cheers = )

    • Hi @wizard,

      Thanks for being vigilant!

      Our mobile app contains publicly available data provided by the ATO. The app is a tool to help maximise your tax refund and the Promo codes are legitimate.

      We have released a genuine 99 cent offer to help Aussies during tax time.

      As I type this we have had confirmation of at least 2 people who have used the code just now.

      Cheers =)

    • Hey @ Wizard,

      It's good to see that you are questioning the norm and seems like you are weary of scams.

      You mentioned:
      "So let me get this right. They will optimise our tax return. So we will be full liable for falsely claiming deductions based on their app. Yeah nah nah"

      That's not quite right. There is no claim anywhere of the App to 'optimise your tax return'. I The app provides specific guidances as to what you can and can't claim based your job - this information is derviced directly from the ATO. It is against the law to falsely claim deductions.

      We do appreciate (polite) scrutiny as it helps us identify if there are any gaps we may have missed. Happy to address any other concerns you may have after you have actually examined the app - which you are welcome to download for free without using the code - or not.

      Cheers = )

    Will our data be stored within your servers (e.g. TFN and d.o.b) and if so, what security measures are in place to ensure our data is safe?

    • +1

      Hi @ 18,

      Apologies, i hit reply on the post just below. I'll copy paste my answer here again

      Excellent question!

      I would like to confirm that

      We do not collect or store TFN
      We do not collect or store DOB
      We do not file or optimise tax return but help people record and claim all deductions they are eligible for.
      You may be already aware that it is illegal that there are very strict rules about who is lawfully allowed to ask for and receive TFNs and how TFNs may be stored or used by an Authorised TFN recipient.

      There are 3 core fundamentals of the App
      1. Adherence to ATO compliance and rules
      2. User data security to ensure receipts and data is securely stored and can be accessed even when changing devices
      3. Users privacy

      Data is stored on cloud servers based in Australia and will store receipts and basic information but not TFN or DOB

      TLS is used to communicate between the app and the cloud servers.. Data on the cloud is encrypted using 256 bit AES.

      Let us know if you have any other questions!

      Cheers =)

    The ATO tax software does all the same stuff for free.

    • Hi @crc32,

      The ATO mobile app is called MyDeductions and it certainly allows you to store basic information. There are shortcomings of the ATO app reported by users. These were taken into account to build an app, particularly to help people with their work from home tax deductions.

      The app will also show the average claimed for your job.

      The app is free to download and the upgrade plans are for those who want to store more receipts and record more work from home hours - which in turn would help them claim more deductions.

      Thanks for your comment!

      Cheers =)

    • This. MyTax is free, autofills most data and is easy to use

      The industry/occupation specific deductions are here - https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Income-and-deductions/Occ… - and it also links to that page while you're doing your return.

      The ATO also had deduction tracking - https://www.ato.gov.au/general/online-services/ato-app/myded…

      Plus I'd be seriously worried about tracking my expenses through them. Sure, year one is 99c, sign up then cancel after you lodge. But what if it becomes your actual data for tracking working from home? You need access to that for the next 5 years.

      I'd just use a spreadsheet and stay on the safe side.

      • +2

        Hey @ Freefall,

        Sounds like you are well informed - this is great!

        Thank you for pointing out the industry occupation guides.

        You can also find the A-Z of deductions also on the ATO website here: https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Income-and-deductions/In-…

        There are many tools references available on the ATO website and there are also official government legislation documents available for anyone to access.

        One of the goals of the app is to make information that is relevant to a users job readily available at all times so they can be more engaged with their deductions and make sure they are claiming everything they are entitled to.

        You mentioned:
        "Plus I'd be seriously worried about tracking my expenses through them. Sure, year one is 99c, sign up then cancel after you lodge. Hopefully I can help alleviate your worries about tracking your expense through the app (it's good that you are consciously considering of the detailed workings of the app). You can ssign up wit the 99c and cancel at any time. Regardless, you will still receive the benefits of a smart gold user for the whole 12 months. And when the 12 months are up you can still access your data at any time! You can also export it to a PDf or to your google drive any time if you are more comfortable with that. Regardless of whether you have an upgraded plan or not, your data will always be yours and be accessible unless until you delete it yourself.

        ATO says: “You need to keep your records for five years from the date you lodge your tax return.”

        And spreadsheets are great! You are welcome to use the App or have the freedom to use your spreadsheet to track your work from home hours.

        Cheers =)

          Well, there are limited representatives here like you trying to inform and detail users so they make their own independent Decisions. Not just the sales speech.
          Well done OP.

          • @PopCounty: Hey PopCounty,

            Thanks so much for your comment!

            We really appreciate your positive vibes! We also value any constructive feedback which will help to improve the information we provide to inform users, improve our service and and build features in the app that Australians will benefit from.

    Yehhhh don't bother with this. Use the governments actual FREE tax return system it works very well if you want to do it yourself. If you have a business or lots of things to claim you probably won't be doing it youself anyway

    ATO Free myTax Return

    • +3

      Hey @Dezeption,

      The ATO indeed has a free tax lodgement system and it works!

      You mentioned that "f you have a business or lots of things to claim you probably won't be doing it youself anyway"

      Did you know that for the 2017–18 income year that 28.7 individuals lodged their tax returns through myTax?
      That's 4.1 Million Australian Tax payers self-preparing or self-loding.

      Check out the stats on the ATO website at: https://www.ato.gov.au/About-ATO/Research-and-statistics/In-…

      In saying that, ofcourse not everyone will see value in the app and some people prefer not to engage with their tax nor do they prioritise getting a higher refund.

      We're here to help if you have any other questions.

      Cheers = )

  • Using Android.

    App keeps crashing at the upgrade page even after entering the discount code.

    Please assist.

    • Hi @danzster,

      We're getting onto this right away! Looking into it to find out what might have caused the issue on your device.

      I can confirm that we are still getting users successfully using the code as I type, so we are looking to isolate the potential issue with your device.

      If you are able to please provide further details to [email protected] we will check it out right away.

      Thanks very much for letting us know and we'll make sure to get this fixed!

      Cheers =)

      The TaxFox Team

    • Hey Danzster,

      We've thoroughly checked our back end to see if there were any issues we could identify.

      We noticed the following came from log report: "BillingResponse.userCanceled". It seems you may have inadvertently cancelled the upgrade on the first instance. This is easily fixable, if you close (kill) the app and re open, you should be able to reenter the code and successful upgrade with the promo.

      Let us know if you have any other issues as we will do everything possible to help you get access.

      Cheers! = )

  • This is quite a good apps for working holiday visa people. My only concern is too much personal information giving out to unknown 3rd parties and government website even got hacked these days.

    • Hey @Braday,

      Great points!

      At TaxFox we take privacy and security of personal information extremely seriously. Hence why the foundations of our app is to ensure that our users information is secure and protected, as well as not misplaced or lost.

      Data is stored on cloud servers based in Australia and will store receipts and basic information but not TFN or DOB

      TLS is used to communicate between the app and the cloud servers.. Data on the cloud is encrypted using 256 bit AES.

      We would really love to hear the specific reasons as to why you think this would be good for working holiday visa people. Learning this will help us improve the features to to help solve problems and pain points. Feel free to email us directly at [email protected].

  • why should I get the premium plan when I can see all the info on normal plan? can you explain some benefits please

  • Hey ozbargainerforlife1,

    Excellent question!

    We continue to pack in many features and useful information (in plain English) that will help Australians become more informed and educated with Tax and about what they are legally eligible for and entitled to.

    The differences in the plan at this stage is that higher plans allow you store more receipts and record more work from home hours, ultimately which may result in being able to claim more deductions and potentially resulting in larger tax refunds. So the app only charges for things that we hope are beneficial for our customers. I hope that makes sense?

    Here are some of the benefits as you requested:

    1. See what expenses you can and can’t claim in your job
    2. Compare your tax deductions vs the average for your job
    3. Save your expense receipts in one place
    4. Track and grow your estimated tax refund
    5. Save all your work-from-home expenses
    6. Easily export receipts and summary for tax returns
    7. Never lose your receipts or forget to claim expenses
    8. Log your work-from-home days
    9. See the average deductions claimed in other occupations

    TaxFox continually builds features - some of these are coming soon
    * Extra Work from home deduction auto-calculators
    * Optical Character Recognition - to auto detect receipt figures
    * Ability to link Bank accounts - to earmark transactions as potential deductions
    * Machine Learning - Ability to auto-categorise deductions

    Thanks for your question!

    Cheers = )
