These courses with certificates are typically $70-120. If you enrol into a course as explained below, you will have a full access to the course including to all its graded materials. The offer was extended to 31 December 2020.

  These certificates would unlikely be recognised as a part of formal education in Australia. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has had a different experience.
  I've seen that many people post Coursera certificates on LinkedIn to demonstrate their continues professional development, etc.

    I am particularly interested to know if this Intro to Calculus course would be recognised as credit since it's offered by the University of Sydney

    Can I earn academic credit through MOOCs? (massive open online course)
    
    Some MOOCs allow you to earn academic credit from specific institutions. This usually requires paying for the certificate, completing the course(s), and then enrolling in a degree program at said institution.
    
    Note that credit earned through MOOCs is not the same as traditional academic credit. MOOC credit is only recognized by the institution listed on the course information page.
    
    In rare cases, other institutions may accept MOOC credit, but this is entirely at the institution’s discretion, so you should seek approval beforehand.

        For students wishing to complete the MOOC and sit an exam to meet the University of Sydney mathematics prerequisites, please visit the University website to learn more: sydney.edu.au.
        
        So it looks like if you attend USYD and study an eligible degree, you can sit an exam to get credit. Not bad.

  I was told by someone at Melb Uni that they would look at past achievements, and even though MOOC certificates weren't going to count towards formal credit, and mostly didn't have grades, they might very well boost one's chances of being considered.

    If you enrol into a course as explained in the post, you will get not only a certificate but also a full access to all course graded materials (assignments, peer-reviewed projects, etc).

      An edu email address on the other hand can get so many discounts. $450 off Samsung phone, discounted MS Office, Photoshop and lots of free tools. Most of these certificates are not even good enough to hang on a wall. They might save someone $$$ tho (someone who can compete the course and manages to get credit for that subject in uni course)

    the point is that the deal is BS, the title is a clickbait and is absolutely useless, simply multiple account hack, you can earn any specialization/professional cert for free on coursera.
    
    No one is going to give a damn if you did a course on coursera, people want to see that you actually have the specialization or professional cert (even then I doubt anyone cares)
    
    And the way you made it sound like we are saving $70 to $120 per course, or $280 or more per specialisation, which is absolutely NOT true!!
    
    You are saving around $7.00 per course if you don't use this hack. No way a course is $70 on coursera, I have earned multiple specializations all for free to know how the system works.
    
    This is how you do it.
    
    Each specialization has about 4 to 5 courses, some Professional Certificate has 7 courses.
    
    Each course can be done in about 5 to 15 hours, therefore most specalization can be done within a month if you spend 10 to 15 hours per week, but if you can cram about 30 to 50 hours in a week, (depending how much you already familiar with the subject or how smart or focus u are obviously) if you can finish whole specialization within 7 days, you can earn the whole specialization for free. If you wanna cheat (eg, have answers from friends), you earn a specialization / professional cert within 30 minutes.
    
    If you actually want to study the content and earn the specialization, it is actually $35 per month after the 7 days free trial, all you have to do is click on cancel subscription, then coursera will give you a 50% discount, just take that offer and you have 5 weeks to finish 4 to 5 courses to earn that specialization for $35 (or $7 per course assuming it's a 5 course specialization) .
    
    If you really want to study the content and not want to pay, just make two or three accounts, each with different CC (or same I haven't tried same CC, might work), and just do as much as you can with your secondary account with a fake name, write down the answers to the questions (since most quiz questions don't even change), and cancel the subscription before the 7 day trial end, and finish the course with your main account with real name, so you earn the certificate with your name on it to share on your linkedin (if you care about that).
    
    Anyways, end of day, it's either $7 per course or free if you cram it or make multiple account. It's not $70-$120 per course, wtf.

        @canberrascooter: Not everyone has time for creating multiple accounts and investing 30-50 hours a week to get courses for free. I don't think it is an effective way to learn as well.
        
        I accept that you have your point and for some (like yourself) there is a way to get certificates for very discounted price. Thank you for sharing, this can help many students / recent grads with a lot of time in their hands. However, your method is not practical for many.

        @Ulya: I don't think you still understand. $35 is not a discounted course, it is the normal price, because every time you cancel a specialization, coursera will give you 50% off, this applies to every specialization. Essentially, it is around $7 per course, I don't think you even have earned a specialization or professional cert to know how coursera system actually work.
        
        You can finish any course, any time on coursera for free, you don't need any deals.
