Tax Return on Vanguard ETFs Distributions

I am currently trying to fill in my tax returns for my Vanguard ETF Distributions. In the dividend section it asks me the Total unfranked amount, Total franked amount, Total Franking credits and Total TFN amounts withheld.

However, in my distribution letter that I received from Vanguard it only shows Gross Amount (e.g. $28.16), Withholding Tax (e.g. $13.00) and NET Payment ($15.16).

I did not provide my TFN at the time the distribution were sent.

I am stuck on what amounts to put on which field - would be amazing if someone can advise me on what to put.

Thanks :)

What share trading platform do you use mate? On Commsec, there's a Statements section where you download the dividends/distributions for your portfolio - this statement sorts it in the amounts required to be input on your tax return.

Vanguard will issue you a tax statement with all the info you require - use the managed fund section of mygov.
Use your HIN to log into computershare to get it.

If you wait long enough it should be added to prefill

  • What’s the date of the distribution, I’ll work it out for you.

    • I am curious on how you would work it out?

It was VGS - Payment date 16-Oct-2019.

Just looking at this no company tax/franking was paid, which would make sense given its international.

Just put the income as 28.16 and tax paid as 13, which I gather was taken out due to no tfn,

If someone else can affirm this that would be good, as I am no accountant, but you should use other advice of checking in computershare

        Total unfranked=28.16
        Total franked =0
        Total franking credit=0
        Taxed=13

I believe the letter you received is the Payment Advice, not the Annual Tax Statement op

Yes. Log into vanguard online and download your 2020 tax statement which has all the tax info with codes where to enter them.

  • Annual Tax Statements started getting emailed last Friday. If you provided your email, wait for that.

I'd also recommend you provide your TFN and fill out any of the other "forms" on the share registry website.
