Fish tank noise

I live in Melbourne and my neighbour has a fish tank.
Due to the shared walls, my house has a constant humming/vibration noise
How can I stop this?
I have discussed with them but they won't do anything about it!

These isn't much you can do other than move.

The air pump will have a sound but it's not loud enough to force the EPA or the council to intervene.

  • Tell them to buy a quieter air pump, we have this one and it's pretty good, I also have it sitting on a bit of foam. https://www.ebay.com.au/p/1663731584

  • Are you sure its a fish tank, or is your neighbor "working" from home?

  • Do you live in a complex? Is there a manager you can talk to to see what your options are?

    Owner or tenant?

The more annoying it is for you, the more annoying it will be. Won’t be long before you don’t even notice it, as long as you don’t let it get to you. When you notice it, try imagining those relaxing fish swimming around rather that ‘I can’t stand this noise’

First you'll need the neighbours cooperation to figure out if the noise is airborne or structure born.

Make sure the fish tank/ pump is isolated from the wall and floor. They may need to mount it on resilient mounts.

Otherwise they will need to replace with a quieter pump as suggested above.

  • Just ask them to tell their fish 🐟 stop making noise !

  • Play deep bass music against the shared wall with the fish tank. The harmonics will drive the fish insane and will be floating at the top of the tank in a few days. Your neighboour will then turn his now useless pump off. Sweet dreams little fishes.

    • Best to wait until he goes to work, that way they will be dead and he will have nobody to blame!

  • I used to be in the hobby and met people ranging from hobbyist level to almost commercial.

Those with multi - tank racks will run the big filters/pumps.

They normally sit them on noise dampening things like foam or put rubber footings.

Pumps can make a decent noise when they are not working optimally.

The above are likely joking but don't do anything to harm the fish.
