NSW TrainLink Premium Discovery Pass $550 for 6 Months (Unlimited Travel)

180

NSW TrainLink Discovery Pass comes with unlimited regional train travel anywhere within NSW, as well as to Canberra, Brisbane and (under normal circumstances) Melbourne for $550 / 6 Months.

If you purchase a “Premium” travel pass, you’ll be entitled to book First Class where available. Considering this only costs a little more than the Economy pass, it’s well worth buying a Premium pass.

Another key benefit of the Discovery Pass is that you can cancel without penalty if you need to. With the uncertainty surrounding regional travel at the moment, this could be useful if you need to make last-minute changes.

Can't go to Victoria and soon Queensland, so what is the point for this good bargain!

    • The pass doesn't start until you book the first trip, which can happen up to 6 months from purchase of the pass - so a pass bought today could be valid until the end of June next year.

      • which can happen up to 6 months from purchase of the pass

So back to the first point…

"Can't go to Victoria and soon Queensland, so what is the point for this good bargain!"

        • People in NSW can travel throughout NSW?

          • +3

@nezumi: For the time being, yes… Over the next 6 months? Who knows…

            • @jv: I doubt things get worse next year. I actually think things will be significantly better next year.

The vaccines seem to have progressed very well, and yes they will be used soon (expedited for the most vulnerable, so don't have to worry about the distribution). What happened to Melbourne was due to slip ups, which I think will be ironed out in the coming months. People have become lax, but hopefully the mask issue will solve that task, and tissues.

Also this is an RNA virus, it evolves rapidly (which could mean the vaccines lose effectiveness without changes, but it also means that it is likely that the virus will become better adapted to the host.

All in all, I think the future is positive, not negative. Yes even 6 months should be enough time to see some of the positive reversal.

              • @rizza: Until something new comes from market

      • I'm not doubting you, but could you please point out where it mentions that 'start until you book the first trip, which can happen up to 6 months from purchase of the pass'?

I assume from your wording you dont have to book that trip when you buy the pass, you can just forget about it for a few months, then start your 6 months whenever you like?

        • From the linked page:
          "Step 2: Book your trips

After you purchase a Discovery Pass, you have up to 6 months to book your first trip. The time limit on your pass will start from the departure date of your first booked trip. All trips must be booked and taken before the expiry date of the pass. You must book each trip before you travel."

This is a great 'cheap accommodation deal' for the homeless….

    • +1

You can get cheaper by just sleeping on long distance NSW Trainlink Intercity Services which operate overnight.

      • -1

How much cheaper, and do they include first class?

  • Upvoted for trains

    • What about Planes & Automobiles ?

  • What was the normal price? Don't see anything on their website…

    • Think this is the normal price

      • So why is this on OzBargain?

        • Perhaps if you do it often?

          • @UberIsCool: Wouldn't that mean every single type of transport method should also be posted?

            • @mrkrazy: Get on it! :) opal card. translink, Myki etc etc

            • @mrkrazy: If there's something unique about the transport method that makes it particularly attractive and isn't well known, why not?

You'd have to go return to Brisbane at least 3 times in this period for the value. Its about $93 one way or $125 in First. 14.5hrs one way.

I did Syd to CBR not long ago, 4.5 hours, about $60 each way in First. It was i nice ride and on par with flying times with airport parking, security etc. Train arrives in Kingston which was a cool Canberra suburb, on the water that is.

    • It will spread to more regions, more quickly with this deal though…

      • LOL! It's so true!

      • So what you're saying is sharing is caring.

        • -2

I'm saying this deal is dangerous and irresponsible in these times.

          • @jv: but did you not see the woman insisting she be allowed in to bunnings with no mask on. She is going to sue bunning for infringing on her rights as a woman.

            *smh*

            • @xoom:

sue bunning for infringing on her rights as a woman

did she want to give birth in Bunnings ???

    • Dude, Virus will always be there and has been there for millions of years; in Bats.

As it is regular price it should be moved to forums.

    • I don't think we want to fill the forums with such rubbish.

      • rubbish. What rubbish. You mean the time someone asked if it was OK to cook all their meals from the council barbecue.
