  • I believe Hong Kong is the cheapest place in the world. However, you gotta be in Hong Kong to purchase it from Apple coz Apple will just reject ur order if you make it online ;)

However, overall its the same price worldwide, your just taking advantage of the small exchange rate difference that might occur.

    • overall its the same price worldwide

      i don't think so

I believe china has to pay more, hence the reason why Australians are buying Australian stock and selling overseas for a profit(but will be cheaper than the price of the 4s at that overseas location)

    • iPhone 4s hasnt been realised in HK yet, not officially, and parallel imports are apparently low in stock or will be expensive, which is why my aunt from HK was asking me about the iPhone 4s in Aus :P

The phone has massive demand. People are paying OVER Apple retail price because of the limited stock. So there is absolutely no need for anybody to discount them.

As for importing one… that sounds like a very risky idea. If you are buying from overseas in order to export it overseas again, then you are double-handling. The relative might as well just buy it themselves.

Also consider - freight costs and insurance… you wouldn't want a $1000 item to get lost in the post. And also consider that Australia Post will not let a phone go via Airmail, or to be posted internationally.

All lithium batteries are now classified as dangerous goods and cannot be carried by air.

Australia Post cannot accept lithium batteries or devices containing lithium batteries for mailing overseas or for domestic air carriage. Parcels containing these items will now only be transported within Australia and by road only.

So, you'd need to find another carrier like DHL.

      Kindly read the wholte guideline…
"How do I know the lithium content of a battery?
Most lithium batteries used in consumer electronic devices contain less than the permitted amount of lithium. For example the following devices and batteries for such devices will be safe to send:
Mobile phones, ipods, cameras, MP3s players, portable DVD players, most lap-top computers, camcorders, power tools, GPS navigation systems, watches, clocks, calculators, toys, remote car locks, bicycle lights, electronic shavers and other consumer electronic devices."

      So mobile phone is safe.

NO NO NO… it is YOU that needs to read the entire guideline.

Australia Post cannot accept lithium batteries or devices containing lithium batteries for mailing overseas or for domestic air carriage.

Australia Post can only accept lithium batteries or devices containing lithium batteries for transport within Australia by road via its parcels service and only if certain requirements are met. The guidelines below explain what types of lithium batteries are accepted by Australia Post and how to package and label your battery or device so that it is safe to send.

And then BELOW those paragraphs it states what you posted.

Those "OK to send" examples refer to Aussie road freight delivery ONLY. Air and internation is completely forbidden.

and then on the second page it RE-STATES…

Can I send a lithium battery or an item containing a lithium battery overseas?

No. Lithium Batteries cannot be carried by air or in overseas mail.

    • I wish the DHL website was easy to read and find info as the AustPost website. I emailed DHL asking about airmailing mobile phones overseas, and apparently they dont allow it too.
This was their reply, in case anyone else ever comes to a similar situation:

Please note that DHL Express is not able to carry any goods that are classified as hazardous or dangerous goods. Due to the lithium battery contained in mobile phones these are considered dangerous goods.
I can provide the number for Pack and Send who have the authority to ship this on your behalf, they can be contacted on 1300 668 000

Not sure what "Pack and Send" is though exactly…
edit: nvm, pack and send is another postage company who will send these stuff.
