That’s a good deal, getting it

Actually … maybe not .. it’s old model

  • +2

I've got one of these at home, feel free to ask any questions :)

    • How big is it? can you put a pic of imgur.com/upload next to your laptop or a object for comparison?

      • +6

Sorry that the photo's a bit crap (cramped desk) but here it is next to my 15" MacBook Pro. It's pretty compact, I've got an ATEN Thunderbolt 3 dock at work that's a fair bit longer. https://imgur.com/a/9MATdy9

        • Thanks photo is pretty clear, now know how big it is

    • Does it come with power adaptor?

      • Yep, charges the connected laptop

    • how is the device deal?, are they selling genuine items?

      • That I'm not able to answer ;)

    • Which keyboard are you using?

      • Vortex Race 3 RGB w/ MX Browns. I actually like it so much that I also have a non-RGB version at work.

  • Can this output video at 144Hz?

    • +1

Yes, mine is connected to a 3440x1440 144Hz monitor

OP you should probably note that this dock is only compatible with Macs, huge caveat.

    • Have you tried yours with a TB3 PC laptop? That sounds incredibly unlikely.

      • I have not but the product page specifically says "Please note that the Thunderbolt 3 Express Dock HD is not PC compatible.".

      • I have seen people using it with PC in my company, it was manageable for windows but totally sucks for linux.
I don't recommend buying it if you are linux fan, drive issue causes too many problems, even it make your system hang

      • I have one and can confirm that it does not play ball with anything other than Macs. To the point where even if you have a Mac and run bootcamp it’s unstable at best. I actually ended up replacing it with a Lenovo TB3 dock just because my bell in one drove me so crazy.

Belkin should put (MACS only) in the product title. Otherwise it’s still very confusing

      • 100% agree. Very misleading.

  • If you do not need 2 HDMI outputs
    this is a much cheaper option (1xHDMI + 1xVGA) for $62.99
    https://www.amazon.com.au/HEYMIX-Adapter-Charging-Ethernet-C…

Or if you need another HDMI output
just get another usb-c hub for $29.9
    https://www.amazon.com.au/HEYMIX-Adapter-Charging-MacBook-Ch…

    From my understanding
Using Mac type-c thunderbolt 3 can only maximum have 2 extra HDMI output?
For a third screen, I think you need additional hub such as Displaylink one?

    • +1

Depends on which Mac you have, but Macbook Pro 2019 supports 4x 4K screens or 2x 6K Screens.
Also unsure if the first one you posted would work with HDMI + VGA at the same time.

The thing with Thunderbolt vs DisplayLink is that Thunderbolt essentially connects direct to the graphics card, imagine a PC with a graphics card and multiple HDMI/VGA connections on there, it pretends to be those connections.

Where as Display Link uses a proprietary protocol for creating multiple screens by using compression. There are benefits to each one, and disadvantages to each one.

e.g. Display Link is super bad for Videos, however Thunderbolt 3 has always had issues with devices if you disconnected and reconnected it (this can be fixed by hibernating or rebooting pc with TB3 dock on).

Non Thunderbolt 3 or Non MST Hub type USB-C adapters often simply use the feature in USB-C called Alt Modes to switch the USB-C to a HDMI connection, so often if you plug in one of these, it won't provide you with an additional HDMI port, it will simply disable the one on your laptop, and push the video through the USB-C connection via Alt Mode.

    • Neither of those are TB3 docks.

      • I think at the end it really depends on your requirement as said by @Iplau

Here’s a pretty details comments around Thunderbolt dock vs Type C hub
        https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/9bmba4/comment/e5…

In reality, unless you really one dock that has full video and USB bandwidth, otherwise personally I would say there are much cheaper options to do the same thing (eg. Getting 2 typeC adapter / cable can still able to achieve 2 x 4k@60Hz hdmi output)

  • This is a cracka deal! Thanks OP. I have been using the Belkin Thunderbolt 2 dock with a Thunderbolt 3 adapter.

This will probably be a side grade for me in terms of usage, but still a great price for genuine Aussie stock. Cheers.
