any1 know what this bug is?

It randomly happens and the size of it is also random, this started recently. Could it be the driver or what?

GPU is a gtx 1660 super, Driver: 451.67

    Cockroach.

    • Appears to be a German one! a bit lousy and with poor sense of humor.

  • Wish you gave us a bit more to go on…

If it's a static image, then it's data rot on a hard drive going bad: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_degradation

If that's a video/game, then check all cable connections and re-install drivers. Try another cable. If nothing helps, could be failing GPU.

    • The image will flash on then if u move the application or open/close it, it will go away.

It doesn't happen in games, just randomly.

      • Graphical issue then. Try another HDMI/DP cable to see if it still happens.

        • If it was happening in games I'd have guessed borked vram & RMA the card - do you mean "not in games at all" or "not just in games"?

faulty vram would generally show up worse in games most of the time but still can show up on the windows desktop, just less likely to cause the vmem is clocked down when not under load

Definitely try another cable, from the info you've given initially and in reply to Hybroid the cable is the most likely fault

After than totally remove the driver with DDU in safe mode, then manually install it (download the installer before you remove the driver though)

If it still persists with known good second cable and totally fresh drivers, the card being faulty is probably the next most likely cause.

no over-clocks on the GPU or on the monitor's refresh rate? If so, revert them to stock & retest

          • @smashman42: It has never happened in any game.

I'll try the methods you mentioned though.

          • @smashman42: After trying a few methods I think the problem is something corrupting in the drivers, because everytime I reinstall the drivers the problem goes away for a couple days then comes back and with another reinstall the problem is gone.

not sure if I'm doing something thats causing it or something I have downloaded.

            • @ODIN2165: Have you done the totally remove the driver with DDU thing or just installed the new drivers?

Not doing DDU properly (use safe mode like it recommends and every tedious thing) would explain it happening again & again

If it is still happening even after that then that's a huge pain, it is easier to start from scratch than sort out software screwing things up like this - though running a long SMART test on your boot drive might be a good idea too just in case the drive is failing.

You could try that switch driver type thing trustnoone suggested first though, it would definitely be easier than a fresh install

If you have a spare SSD trying a fresh install on that (so on a separate drive) might be the next major troubleshooting step to rule things out. Not suggesting you format your main drive yet, just if you have another potential drive you can boot from instead and once Windows is running on that, you can set your current boot drive as D or E or whatever to get any data you need. If it doesn't help you'd switch back to your original drive/install of windows, hence suggesting another drive rather than wiping yours.

      • Which nvidia driver are you using? I had a similar issue with the game ready driver and swapped it to the Studio Driver in the GeForce Experience area Drivers area (three dots drop down). Problem solved after the new driver. A few updates later and the game ready driver was back working again (Nvidia GeForce 1060 Laptop version).

  • Beetle.

  • I think it's your monitor failing to sync the signal. I would borrow a dfferent other monitor and see if that fixes it. Is that image a print screen or camera pic?
