Shoulld I Buy a New Desktop PC in Covid Period or Wait 6-12 Months

Hey Guys,

currently in 2 minds about buying a new PC. Alot of hardware seems much pricier now than pre covid. Otherwise I would be buying a new PC striaght away.

This particular deal looks quite interesting:

Ryzen 9 3900X Productivity & Gaming PC(techfast.com.au): $1348 after 3900X-JUL
https://techfast.com.au/products/amd-ryzen-9-3900x-gaming-de…

I know PC monitors are a bit pricier now & so are video cards. I already have a good monitor & a better video card I can hang out on for awhile. Based on this, am I really paying much more for the above PC than I would be if I brought the same system pre covid?

Yes you're paying more now than pre-pandemic. New hardware releases are expected later this year.

I'm not sure what you want us to tell you. If you want/need one now, go ahead. If not and want to save money, wait. You know this already.

  • Buy now. You have have the blessing of Ozbargain.

Is waiting 6-12 months worth saving $150-$300 off a complete build? That's dependant on you.

For me it wasn't worth it and I purchased what I needed last week.

Are you sitting at home, trapped? Why not get a decent computer and enjoy it. The extra you think you've spent I'm sure you'll be delighted with at the end of 6-12 months with the use you've got. $300 over a year is a dollar a day - big deal. Buy it, enjoy it. Stay home and don't spread covid.

Best of both worlds… order from techfast now and receive it in 6 - 12 months..

  • Just buy it and enjoy it. If your profile is correct and you're located in Melbourne, you're probably going to be saving a lot more during this 6 week lockdown.

  • Also depends on what you are doing with it/what you need a new one for? I'm hanging out for new AMS CPUs and Nvidia GPUs later this year and my existing machine is passable at the moment so no rush. I've got alerts on for motherboard deals at the moment and already picked up RAM. But if my machine couldn't handle the games I have been throwing at it then I wouldn't necessarily wait.

  • I reccomend building one. It is alot cheaper and you can have custom parts. Also the site you linked has a bad gpum it is an RX 550 which is a terrible card for the price you are paying. If you don't want to build you can buy one of a custom builder.
