FMAB on a Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 Sony E Mount Lens!

Looking for this lens, it's on backorder in a few places atm but i dont mind waiting.

I saw it was accidentally included in DigiDirect's 15% off sale recently bring it to under $1400, which i'd love to see haha (i know this is unrealistic probably).

Somehow prices have gone up at some stores but not others. Camerapro, Ted's & JB HiFi all have if for around normal price $1800-$1899. Digidirect is now $2300ish (wtf)?

Anyway, any advice or direction you could point me in would be great!

Unfortunately you will probably never see a price around $1400 again. I managed to grab it for $1300 at Digi's 19% off new year's eve sale in December, but had to wait 2 months to actually receive it. While that delay was happening, Sigma realised the insane demand for the lens, and jacked the RRP up from $1600 to $2500 (which is why Digi now lists it for 2300). Unless you know somebody who can get you staff pricing at JB or Ted's, I reckon $1800 is probably the best price you are going to find unfortunately. If it helps, the lens is absolutely worth the money. If you're not in a rush, you could wait for future sales, or pick one up second hand. Good luck!

    • Ahhhh that makes sense a little more. Damn! Hoping maybe slips through on an eBay sale or storewide sale in the next couple weeks, otherwise I will just bite the bullet, looks fantastic. Was gonna get more primes but I think this is the way to go. Don't like the 28-75 range on the Tamron and much poorer build.
Really appreciate you taking the time to let me know! Thank you!

No worries. I have been in the same situation as you before. It really goes against every Ozb fibre in your body to pay higher than "lowest ever price" haha, but on the other hand, any good price relative to the current market is a good price for something that will add significant quality of life.

Philosophy aside, yeah the 28mm on the wide end of the Tamron is very limiting (I've owned it as well, before the sigma, and I cursed the tamron every time!) The extra weight of the sigma is barely noticeable, build quality is not different enough to worry too much, but the 24mm on the sigma, and the beautiful bokeh are definitely worth the extra $.

I have primes and zooms in my kit. Even as a professional, I only reach for the primes now when I need extreme low light performance because the bokeh on the sigma is so good. It is basically prime-level bokeh smoothness (not as blurry as f1.4, but definitely as smooth as a prime set to f2.8).

Did I mention that I love this lens? hahaha…

Just found it by chance for $1699 at Amazon AU:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B081L5HJBP

The seller, Dcxpert, is actually CRKennedy, the official Aussie distributor for Sigma.

DUDE!!! My hero!!!! You are seriously a legend.

Was just about to pull the trigger too! Thank you so much!!

Your comment literally convinced my on the lens too. I was in the Sony store and almost went for the GM for $2449 but decided to wait.

      Thanks!

      • Haha that’s awesome to hear! Now you just need a strategy for patience while you wait for the lens to be delivered. Can’t help you there I’m afraid! You will love the photos you take with it. Should be fine, but test it for sharpness across the frame at different focal lengths (and compare to online reviews). Much easier to get it replaced if you find the problems soon after purchase.

      • Not sure if you have already bought the lens. But I purchased the same for 1449 from cccw. Came from Hong Kong in 5 days.
