Google Pixel 4a (5G) to cost $799 AUD

Thoughts on the price? Assumed to be getting bigger screen, bigger battery, better processor, 5g, and possibly another camera on the back.

I'm hanging out for the October 8 release of the Pixel 5. Hopefully it's not a huge flop like the 4. I need to upgrade my Pixel 1 XL.

Whilst I know I will be tempted by the 5 I am trying to resist and go with the 4a or 4a 5G only. There's always something better, I need to convince myself of that.

The only reason I am not buying the 4a straight up is battery life. I really want to see some user reviews first.

probably a great camera and perfectly adequate specs you mean?

im confused, i can get a better spec phone for cheaper? this phone has one cam it looks like, screen is tiny, looks bad.
is it because of the software?

software plays a big part definitely.

you are right that google does not tend to use the highest spec cameras but they are almost always praised for both point and shoot excellence and overall quality of photos.

The 4a5G will have two cameras on the rear, the 4a does only have 1. I cannot argue that there are not an abundance of phones with more versatile cameras (zoom, wide, macro etc). I use external lenses if I'm planning a particular shot so it has never been a concern for me but I understand the usefulness of having other lenses for many people.

I've never owned a pixel device, the 4a or 4a 5G is planned to be my first. My comments are only through research.

Other specs: yes it wont be the highest spec out there, nor the best value for money however the overall package is quite appealing. I have read time and time again that the android experience on a pixel, similarly to oneplus phones is excellent. If I narrow my search criteria based on what I would like to experience next then those two brands (only one being manufacturer supported locally) the choices are limited.

          • @SgtBatten: They have excellent warranty support.

I am outdoors a lot and my phone suffers greatly for it.

Four broken phones this year (bad year to be my phone). All had other faults after the screen was repaired. I was surprised to learn they qualified for warranty as long as the broken screen is repaired through their authorized repaired and there were no obvious signs of abuse.

All four were replaced with minimal hassle.

Had two Pixel 2XL replaced because the charging port was getting iffy. Both phones were older than 2 years and it was replaced without fuss.

I have had other flagship phones. I have never been successful at getting satisfactory warranty support.

Yes, the number of lens totally correlates to camera quality.

  • After making the stupid mistake of getting an S20+, I'm waiting on the Pixel 5 to upgrade. Hope it doesnt turn out to be a dud like the Pixel 3 (worst battery life I have seen on a new phone).

    • What's wrong with the S20+?

      • I'm happy with my S20. A few complaints but nothing is perfect. From personal experience I got my old man a 3A XL, he's liking it a lot. Glad that the 4a have finally updated the screen with the punch hole. The bezels on the pixel 3a & 4 are pretty large.

Can 5G phone use normal sim card that everyone is using at the moment, or there's special sim card for 5G?
