So Many Installed Browsers

Just ran CCleaner and sped up my desktop PC no end. But I noticed that Under Windows it checked

  • Microsft Edge
  • Edge Chromium
  • Internet Explorer

and under Applications it checked

  • Firefox
  • Opera
  • Google Chrome

Don't know how Opera got there and CCleaner found nothing to fix. At various times I have made any of them the default but not IE. Despite this, some email attachments for example still open in IE.

Should I clear one or more of these out and if so how to do so, safely?

    Uninstall unused browsers.

Probably auto installed when installing other software. You might have missed the little tick.

Some software you install may offer the option to install other freeware. For example, CCleaner asks if you to install chrome or Avast.

CCleaner has those applications in the list as those are the ones it can clean. It doesn't mean they're all installed though.

Keep going you almost have them all.

  • Windows alone has 3 in a standard installation… Edge, IE32bit & IE64bit…

  • Is Internet Explorer somewhat fundamental though, a bit like DOS behind Windows?
So, I want to be sure that it is safe to uninstall.
And, do you need both Edge and Edge Chromium, if you want them at all, or is Edge redundant?
