Where should be buy online groceries that offer prices same or close to store?

Hello Ozb community,

Since Melbourne is going through Stage 4 lockdown, we are considering ordering groceries online. But there are just so many options available and each has its own pros and cons. We're not keen on stocking up grocery and happy to order on weekly bases.

While there may be many options like Coles/woolies online, Coles onEbay (which I think is more expensive than Coles stores) etc..I was wondering if anyone could suggest what they use for day to day online grocery shopping?

Thanks.

  • It very much depends on where you live, and what stores are doing delivery to that area.

Ebay Coles online is the cheapest for those using the current Ebay Plus 10% off code and for some more have another 10% off double stack with '
Ebay cards . Coles flybuy offer 10% on now for a $50 Ebay Card . Minimum order up to $89 .
Problem is out of stock on many items and for me overall have refunded around 15 % that they can't provide .

    • Thanks for detailed response. I would think you would need to buy from Ebay if you like to use 10% off code as the code won't work on coles online website? And likewise coles gift cards won't work on ebay plus?

  • Note the minimum spends required - perhaps someone can compile a wiki.

    • Why not you?

      • I don't buy groceries online so not expert on this (only very rarely when there's a good incentive).

Woolies charge the same price for groceries online and in store. Woolies Egift cards work, saving you 5%

Coles charge more for online for some products via their own website - Not ebay store (Unless thats changed).

Coles via Ebay is cheaper (see popslee great post for more) but not all products are available through their ebay store.

eg A2 milk, Coles Oats, instore bakery items etc

So if you want complete shop via online - Woolies is probably cheaper.
If you want cheapest shop overall - Coles, supplemented by instore top ups

    • Agree, Ebay Coles is great. Too bad I’ve been plagued by parcel theft lately.

      • Do you have any more information on this. I am cross with them because they do not ring the doorbell and anything left outside my door can be seen from the street. I have complained about this and they say that as these are now unattended/contactless deliveries they do not need to ring the doorbell. Last week the usual link to change the delivery time did not work and when I contacted them they told me that the link changing delivery time was sent in error and the time could not be changed. They wanted to deliver from 4 am and only changed it because the order had ice cream and frozen fruit,

Yeah I stoped all online deliveries. Afraid that I may have been targeted. Now I only do local pick ups.

    • Not sure if that is true for Woolworths. Have had a couple of times when I noticed something online, and when I went to go instore, it was at a more expensive price.

      • True, they do have online specials but usually these are market as such. I think that may explain it.
