Canon M6 Mirroless Question: Can I turn off the continuous autofocus?

I just got a Canon M6 after having owned a DSLR for years as I wanted a more compact option to add. It's my first mirroless. I got an EF to EF-M lens adapter and attached my nifty fifty, but the camera is constantly autofocusing when on. I understand if I was in video mode, but I'm in aV mode, and I don't need it constantly focusing when I'm walking around not even composing a shot. With the nifty fifty, it's constantly focus hunting and making the horrible noise the nifty fifty does (non STM), which I just think is unnecessary and a drain on the battery. I want to just half press the shutter button and auto focus myself when I'm ready to take a picture like I do on my DSLR. Why does it need to continuously focus the moment I flick the on switch?

I can't for the life of me find how to turn this off in the settings, nor can I find information online.

Is there a way to turn off this continuous auto focus when in picture mode (not video)? Surely there is??
