Obtain Jetstar Full Refund

Hi OzBargain,

I am curious if anyone has been able to receive a full refund after receiving a JetStar voucher?

My partner was going to travel to her home country in May but due to COVID her flights were cancelled. I believe she had a Starter Fare.

She was able to obtain and was emailed a credit voucher but as she has not been working so much, she would really benifet if Jetstar provided a refund.

Has anyone been able to receive a refund with similar circumstances as above?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Unless your ticket T&Cs said you are entitled to cash refund (which is what you're asking), then a travel credit is a valid form of 'refund' as outlined here by the ACCC.

Budget airline, not a chance, only a voucher which should be valid until 2021 from memory to make your booking, which can be for travel up to a year after that.

So basically you have up till 2022 to use the credit voucher.

    • The ACCC has savaged Qantas over this behaviour.

      news.com.au: https://apple.news/A4MgeVQyLQW2sKaN7grAbXQ

“From our perspective, from the outset, Qantas did not communicate clearly with customers about their rights and in a large number of cases, simply omitted they were entitled to a refund,” ACCC chair Rod Sims said in a statement on Friday.

“In some cases, the ACCC considers Qantas’ emails may have encouraged these customers to cancel bookings themselves in order to receive a credit when many would have been eligible for a refund.”

If you already accepted the voucher, then I think you've forfeited any chance of a refund.

I got email offering voucher, or alternatively could click a link to read other options. Link said can apply for refund using the virtual assistant chat. I applied last week and got a reply asking to provide more information via a live chat. Did the live chat just now and was told refund is already processed and will be sent to the original mode of payment. But in my case the original mode of payment was a voucher anyway. Hopefully it's forthcoming and I don't have to follow up.

OP I guess you can try the live chat and ask.

  • Yes I got a full refund, however, I requested this myself before I was offered/given a travel credit.

I would say that it would be hard for you to get a refund now that you have the credit, but you could still use the live chat function to put in a request.

  • Ahh I messed up because I did this with Tiger Air. Took up the offer for the travel credit because I assumed I'd be using them sometime in the future and now the brand is being retired and I get 'future flight' credits for Virgin but that's dependent on whatever the new ownership does

  • i got a credit link but then just did web live and they refused to give a refund…. -__-

Should i just cave in and get a credit voucher or just wait and someone may do a class action and eventually be able to get a refund? What are your thoughts? It is like me ordering something from a store and they have no longer supply (beyond their control) and now are refusing to refund the money but give me credit.

  • Our flight to Japan is early Dec. I got on chat and they won't do anything and asked me to login and manage my bookings or wait closer to the time.

Hearing what you just said is so disheartening. Can we report to Fair Trading?

  • my flight was canceled last year, received a credit voucher (wasn't allowed a cash refund), expiring mid 2021, then they extended to end of 2021.

I still don't see myself flying anytime soon X_X no chance of cash refund?
